I have a love/hate relationship with Wyeast smack packs. I like the McDLT-esque separation of ingredients and I like the way they don't spray all over the place if I don't open them super sloooowly.

I've never figured out the best way to smack them, though. I get it set up on the counter, push the nutrient deal into the corner, give it a good smack and ... that slippery little bugger always shoots over to the other side.

Lifetime, I'd say my mean smacks per successful burst rate (SpSBR) is somewhere around 2.4. This always drive me nuts.

BUT THEN TODAY, I tried something different. I held that stupid pack in both hands and just squeeeeeeezed.

Boom. Nutrient pouch explosion.

I want to brew twice this weekend just to try it again.

I've smacked 100% and never had problems. Smack it more than once if you aren't confident :)

I smack it in my hands.

Haven't smacked it in years. (Well, a pack anyway. :cross:)

Been giving mine the CPR treatment for a long time now.
Palm over nutrient pack to corner.
Other palm over the first.
Press down like someone's life depended on it.
