Ball Lock disconnect re-assembly

I've been remiss in cleaning my liquid line ball lock disconnects.
I took them all apart, soaking in PBW then Star-san.
Curiously, some internet youtube say to put the short side of the post down with the spring on the long side. I've always thought long side down with the spring on the short end. Like this:

It is true that there is a plague of faulty ball lock disconnect diagrams extant showing the plunger up-side-down, like this one:

Fascinating....
As if we don't have enough minutia to contend with.
I'll keep gasket side down. I've actually bought these with the gasket side up!
 
I keep the gasket side down, as well. I actually broke one by putting it together with the gasket side up....no big deal, I can still use it, but it's a bit stumpy.
