Reviving Old Yeast -- Yeast Starter Question

I figured it was four months, but wasn't sure. I think I'll try adding more wort, and this saves the time of cold crashing and then bringing back up to room temperature etc. Any problems with just pitching the entire starter as opposed to decanting and just pitching the yeast?

Reviving Old Yeast -- Yeast Starter Question

Thanks, I think you've answered my question. OG is expected to be 1.058. How long do I need to leave the first starter in the fridge to cold crash it and get the yeast out of suspension before doing a second step-up?

Reviving Old Yeast -- Yeast Starter Question

I had some yeast purchased last June (While Labs Cali Ale WLP001) that has been in the refrigerator this entire time. We had a new baby in July and I tore up my knee a few months later, and just haven't had the time to brew. The yeast had a best used by 09/25/12 date on it, but I could not...

Homebrewer Ben Starr, finalist on Tv's Master Chef season 2

I think what sunk Alejandra was that she tried to act like she didn't know the porkloin was raw. She just HAD to know what she plated, and it appeared like she tried to cover it up. Either way. .. if she didn't know, that's a HUGE mistake, and if she did know, and tried to cover it up...

    Android on Verizon

I got the HTC Thunderbolt about 2 months ago. Previously, I was using the Blackberry Tour and loved it. I really, really, really like the Thunderbolt. I loved the qwerty keyboard on my Tour, and it takes a little getting used to to type on-screen, but it is one of the best touchscreen...

    Gateway Beer

I was introduced to two beers soon after I started drinking beer in the mid-nineties. Pete's Wicked Ale, and Sam Adams Boston Lager. Now thinking back, I can't remember which I had first, but they started me down this path. I'm just now learning that Pete's formula was changed later...

Homebrewer Ben Starr, finalist on Tv's Master Chef season 2

Wow! I was intrigued by Ben from the selection episode when he used his Pumpkin IPA in the recipe. . .that was probably right before I joined the forum. I was already rooting for him due to this, but this is pretty cool. Good luck. . .that catfish episode last night made me hungry.

does airlock pressure have a noticeable impact on fermentation?

Don't know why I feel obliged to get in the middle of this, but Revvy didn't say that Chris White "barely understands" this issue. He didn't even insinuate that. Instead, he wrote that people who often repeat things that they heard don't understand the issue or topic that they are repeating...

HBT in today's New York Times

I thought it was a fun article. Gave me something to dream about. But I guess I'll have to get my first batch bottled and conditioned before I shell out $6k for a monster brewery. :sarcasm: :D

Noob needs help with fermentation issue!

I had a similar concern this weekend. First brew ever. Used a "Brewer's Best" kit for their Imperial Nut Brown Ale. After pitching, it went 6-7 hours with no activity. I was like a kid on Christmas Eve just waiting to see some action. Went to bed at 1:30am and still no activity. I...

    New Brewer in OKC

Just started my first brew. Used a "Brewer's Best" starter kit for their Imperial Nut Brown. I guess we'll see how it goes. Looking forward to learing the ropes around here.
