Delta Brewing Free Shipping no Longer Applies to Grains

Delta Brewing Free Shipping no Longer Applies to Grains. This change was made in the last one to two months. Very much a bummer.

I made a fresh hop farmhouse with Crystal, Newport, and Nugget

I made a fresh hop farmhouse with Crystal, Newport, and Nugget because I had them in the garden. Newport and Nugget are bittering hops to me. This seems dangerous...but it seemed a shame to let them go to waste. So I collected a bunch (at least 1.5 pounds) and threw them about 160F. Then I used...

    CO2 extract shelf life

I found a Columbus co2 extract from HopsDirect in a bin of ingredients. It was a freebie. so I didnt check the instructions. Mfg says refrigerate. Ive had it at room temp for about a year. There seems to be a lot of variation in recommendations on storage, including one who says up to three...

    Whirpool with oats...

So I had steroid induced insomnia last night and spent a lot of time thinking... I like using oats in my recipes, especially IPA's. I'm wondering if anyone has put oats in their whirpool? My reasoning is not for increased sugar, but to get more the oaty taste, proteins, beta glucans etc into...

    Belma + Calypso IPA

A few weeks ago I brewed an IPA with Belma and Calypso. Both hops I bought cheaper than dirt. I've since used Belma in a SMASH, and really liked it. I figured I would combine the Belma and the Calypso. I kegged the beer today; tasted the remainder. Wow, I think it's pretty good. I'm attaching...

Whirpooling fresh hops in Spike 20

Im planning a simple beer on Sunday. Im going to mash in my 20 gallon spike. I have four pounds of fresh hops i plan to throw in during whirpool. Does anyone have experience with this quantity of fresh hops, and how effective the whirlpool is to prevent the hops from clogging the pump system?

My barley field is not looking good

I need some help. I have a vacation home out in the Oregon high desert. I'm attempting to grow some barley as an experiment. Before planting I limed the soil. The barley is well fertilized. The soil is sandy loam, but nothing has really ever been grown here, so I'm not sure what state the soil...

    The Wheat of Doom

Im refining a recipe that uses some unmalted spring wheat. So i got really frustrated with my malt muncher tonight and threw the wheat berries into the blender, then into my spike mash pot. This wheat is 25% of my recipe. I think Im doomed. (yes, i used rice hulls and enzymes on this.)

    Not impressed with BRU-1

I got a bag of BRU-1 on black Friday to try. Brewed a SMASH with it to learn the BRU-1 flavor. I double dry hopped it, using copious amounts. I've got to say I'm not impressed. It's not a bad hop, but I like others a lot more. I think Lemondrop has much more interesting flavor than BRU-1. Am I...

White mold on my hop spider

I pulled out my hop spider this morning, just looking equipment over. I found some white mold on it. (root cause already found and remedied) I've never had to deal with white mold. Is good scrub in oxiclean, plus a sanitize in starsan enough or should I use a stronger sanitizer? Thoughts?

Who else is making purchases now to offset future inflation?

I got two emails this week about ~10ish % price increases. Im thinking about purchasing a bunch of dry yeast to carry me through the next six months. Anyone else doing this?

    Today’s additives

Wish me luck, never used UltraFlo Max before. Come to think of it, it rather sounds like prostate medication. o_O

Letting the wife can in the Brew pot

today is the first try for the wife to boil her jars in the electric brew pot (spike solo 20g). So far I’d say she likes it. Less fuss. No flame. Easy cleanup. And she can fit more quart jars in solo 20g. Win-win. Hardest part was walking her through setup of the pod.
