    Bottling from Unitank

Hello, I have recently purchased a unitank and have an isobarometric bottling machine. I know that the pressure inside the bottling machine should be just a little less than the pressure in my unitank, but my question is how much pressure should be in my unitank during the bottling operation ...

    I should have needed a starter but I didn't ! why ?

Hello, I brewed on April 20th an ale with an OG of 1.046. I pitched my 23L of wort (6 gallons) with only 1 pack WLP-029 liquid yeast and without doing a starter. The fermentation started slow (no activity for 36/48h), but finished today at 1.010 after 7 days of active fermentation. I fermented...

Big difference between Beersmith and Grainfather recipe

So that would mean that the GF app is giving a wrong OG ? How can this be ? I've tried to contact GF and they said that it's better to use their numbers because it has been tested multiple times. I'm completely lost... Edit: I see that you used 75% MASH efficiency, but 75% is supposed to be the...

Big difference between Beersmith and Grainfather recipe

Hi, I can't figure out why with the exact same values in the grain bill, volumes and brewhouse efficiency, I get such different values from Beersmith to the grainfather recipe. Please see below: Recipe in grainfather website: So with the same values I have : - in Beersmith: OG=1.045...

Beersmith export to Grainfather giving different gravity values

Hello, I would like for my next recipe to brew a small batch of 10L with Grainfather. I've created this recipe on Beersmith (in French sorry): Beersmith says that with these values I should have an OG of 1.056 and 36 IBUs The problem is that when I export this recipe to Grainfather, I get...

Unbalanced water profile with Brun water excel tool

Could you point me in the direction of what could be wrong ? I've very limited knowledge in water chemistry and don't know how I could figure it out myself. As I told I've checked several times the values given by the city. I've also tried with a previous report from months before, the values...

Unbalanced water profile with Brun water excel tool

Hi ! I've just filled the water report input with the values given from my town. I've checked several times and I'm sure that these are correct. However Brun water tool is saying that it's unbalanced. Any clues ? Also how would you treat a water with such a high amount of sodium and chloride...

    Dry hopping and diacetyl rest

Thank you Is it a possibility to do the first scenario, but instead of doing all of it at 18/19°C, doing the first 2/3 days at 18/19°C and then 2/3 more days at 14°C ? and then cold crash

    Dry hopping and diacetyl rest

Hi guys ! I've read a LOT of paradoxal things about dry hopping in terms of temperature and timings, and I'm still unclear of how is the best way to do it, so I'm asking you guys. What I though I would do is put the dry hops when fermentation is almost over (0.004 before FG), and leave it for...

    Forgot to rinse PBW

Hey ! I just finish a brew day, and I just want to know if I have to throw my 20L batch away :( At the end of the boiling stage, I added some hops, and use my Stirring Paddle to mix that in the mash. The problem is that this Stirring Paddle was resting in a PBW solution and I didn't rinse it...

    British brown ale

The problem is that with 83.5% maris otter, 9% Caramunich, 5% Biscuit and 2.5% Chocolate, my color is at the low low range of the EBC for a Brit brown ale. I reach only 24 EBC, and ideally I would have like 30.

    British brown ale

So if I understand correctly my recipe is not a British brown ale, even if I remove the brown malt ? What would you think of this grain bill ?: Maris-otter: 70% Biscuit: 17.5% Caramunich type 2: 10% Chocolate: 2.5% I'm looking for an easy to drink, low alcohol, low bitterness kind of brown...

    British brown ale

I'm a bit confused, are we talking about American brown ale or British brown ale ? My goal is to make a british brown ale, and from what I saw the brown malt is a common grain to add (here it's the 6th most used grain: https://www.brewersfriend.com/styles/british-brown-ale/)

    British brown ale

Hello ! Thank you for your comment, unfortunately I don't have any british crystal available for this recipe. What do you think about reducing brown malt and increasing maris otter like this then: - Maris otter: 80% - Brown malt: 7.5% - Biscuit malt: 5% - Caramunich malt: 5% - Chocolate malt...

What do you think of this Cream Ale recipe ?

Hello ! I would like to brew a Cream Ale as my second ever brew and after reading a lot about it, I created this recipe: What do you think about it ? I hesitated a lot about bringing another malt than Pilsner, but tought that it might be good to have some Maris Otter. I would have chosen...
