Irish Red lager/ale split batch, how's the recipe look?

I don't have any brewing software with me right now, but the recipe I'm looking at brewing is something like this: 10 gallons: 20# Marris Otter Pale malt 2# melanoidin malt 2# biscuit malt 1# flaked barley 1/4# roasted barley ?oz of US Goldings for 60 min (whatever gets me in the low...

What's the highest apparent attenuation you've ever gotten (without bugs)?

I tested the gravity of my IPA yesterday before cold crashing... It was 1.008, OG was 1.060. I was not expecting it to finish this dry, 86% ! I have never had a beer attenuate this much. The balance is now waaay off in the direction of the hops. I definitely like my beers on the drier...

    Beer gun: nubless

So I lost that little black rubber nub that goes on the end of my beergun. Anyone know how I can get another one of these annoying little parts?

    I get wet

Now that I have your attention...does anyone else get mildy soaked while brewing? I'm kind of messy, and I'm getting nervous about about the looming Eastern Washington winter. I do 10 gallon high gravity batches so stuff tends to spill occasionally, and I get anything but clean during the...

Accidently made a Scottish pub ale...kinda

So, my first brew since moving to Spokane 2 weeks ago is done. I wanted to make something highly quaffable that wouldn't scare off my budding BMC-swilling friends here but still have some good flavor. I'm REALLY pleased with the results. This beer has a nice creamy maltiness and fruity...

Storing Star San solution in a plastic bucket?

Is this fine to do for extended periods of time? I want to make 5 gallons of Star San with some distilled water and use it as many times as I can, I'm currently running through it way to fast. Is it ok to let it set in plastic for extended periods of time? (I seem to remember reading...

Labels I made for a Heather Ale

FRONT: BACK: It actually turned out very good, I didn't use ANY hops. Wasn't sweet at all.

Chocolate Mint Winter Warmer: Help me out

Let me start out by saying that I don’t really care for style guidelines, depending on who you ask the base beer could be many different styles (Baltic porter, imperial brown, whatever!). I brewed a dark, high-gravity, winter ale last year using juniper that came out amazing! This recipe is...

    Quick and dirty Pumpkin Ale

I was at one of my local brewpubs the other day and as the place was starting to close, the bartender brought out a pitcher of beer She said it was their pumpkin ale, I had some and thought it was delicious. I inquired as to how they used the pumpkin and... It turns out their chef made...

    Did I make malt vinegar?

I recently cracked up an old belgian white I made months ago, as I opened it...I realized it was improperly capped (no hiss, it came off very easily). I took a drink and...uh...tasted like pure vinegar! Has this ever happened to you? I think I'm going to use it to make a dressing/marinade...

Have you guys ever brewed up some Kombucha?

I've recently become addicted to this tonic: Kombucha - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia However, you can only buy it at organic stores and it's very expensive (~$3 for 16oz). It's very low in calories (about 35 calories in 8oz), contains caffeine, and a tad bit of alcohol (~.5% or less)...

    Custom Screen-printed Pint glasses

I was looking into doing this a couple of months back, the cost was actually VERY cheap per glass when you bought more than $50 (we're talking less than 2 smokes per glass). The websites were designed for corporate customers and not very user friendly, so I never really got around to it...

What's the longest it's ever taken for a brew to carbonate?

Last DECEMBER I brewed a split 10 gallon batch of barley wine. WLP001: was 9.6% WLP007: was 8.6% (go figure) I thought it would never carbonate for the longest time, but it's finally there. Is this typical? I did a 9% RIS that carbed in less than a month. I also made a 8% abv cyser...

Been getting poor effeciency, after a year of AG brewing

Before I get into it, let me say I did RTFM, I just got done reading the efficiency sticky :) I switched to AG about a year ago. I usually hit a horrendous 60% effeciency. I have had as low as 49% :drunk:(RIS) and as high as 69% (don't remember the beer). I have investigated numerous...
