Chris White of White Labs says it’s not necessary to wash yeast?

I watched an 1.5 hour interview with Chris White, and in it he says he prefers to just scoop out a portion of the yeast cake, and use it in the next beer instead of washing it. If Chris White says it’s better not to bother washing then I’m comfortable trying it out. This will make it so much...

Do I need to calculate my sparge water exactly when batch sparging?

Does the mash tun need to run dry as I’m collecting my final runnings? Or, can I just overshoot my sparge water amounts and drain until I hit my pre boil volume? I’m using a 10 gallon Home Depot cooler with a false bottom. Thanks

I added the lactic acid late

I’m doing a 90 minute mash with about 95% Pilsner malt. At 50 minutes left I realized I forgot the lactic acid ‍♂️. I just added it, but is it too late?

How long for trub to settle?

Long story short...a mishap resulted in my wort going into the fermentor with all the hops unfiltered. Before I always used mash bags. How much longer should it take to clear? Not a hoppy beer, just 2 oz of pellets.

Did my starter make enough yeast?

It’s my first starter and it doesn’t look like much to me. It’s 1 pack WLP001 in a 1500 ML starter, OG 1.034.

    Does this starter look ok?

It’s been about 20 hours and this doesn’t look active to me. Is this normal? It has a ring of tiny bubbles around the edge but that’s it.

How do I know if my starter is working?

It’s been on the stir plate for about 7 hours. It looks the same as when I first pitched. What should I be seeing? 1.5 liters, OG 1.034, 1 packet WLP001. Pitched at 75 degrees.

How important is temperature with a starter?

I live in a hot climate and my ambient temps in my apartment are mid 70’s at night mid 80’s during the day. Will this be ok while I’m at work? If not I’ll put it in the room with A/C but I prefer not to run it when I’m not at home. If I have to I will.

Is 2 white labs packs enough??

Only one day off from work this week and I forgot the starter. My plan was to just buy two packs, but the brewer’s friend calculator says I need 3 packs. The planned OG is 1.061....really don’t want to drop $25 on yeast lol.

    Hello from L.A.!

Hello everyone I'm getting back into brewing after a 3 year hiatus. I used to brew all grain, but stopped when I moved to a new city and couldn't take any of my equipment with me. I guess getting settled into a new home got in the way and it kind of got put on the back burner. I've been...
