    Golden Naked Oat Kolsch?

Yes, I completely agree with you actually. I guess the reason that I called it a kolsch, is because it's based off of my kolsch recipe. I just sub'd GNO in for white wheat malt...and then used completely different hops :D So it STARTED as a kolsch, but now I have no idea what it might be.

    Golden Naked Oat Kolsch?

I keep reading about the "nutty" flavor that they have. Is there any craft brew out there that you can think of that uses GNO, or anything that I could try with a similar "nutty" taste? Would this nutty taste be undesirable in a beer hopped with more tropical/sweet hops like bravo and Galaxy?

    Golden Naked Oat Kolsch?

Thank you for the correction, yes, I used white wheat malt. And I sort of think that in the end, I won't quite have a kolsch. Maybe something similar to a kolsch but not exactly bjcp guidelines, as kolsches are supposed to be more on the dry side than the sweet side, if I remember correctly...

    Golden Naked Oat Kolsch?

I've got a little time, so I've been experimenting and trying to perfect recipes so when the big brew day happens, I know exactly what I'm brewing. :mug:

    Golden Naked Oat Kolsch?

Hey all, So I've really wanted to experiment with Golden Naked Oats and my wedding is coming up (which I am brewing all the beer for) so I wanted to give something new a try. I have a kolsch recipe that all my buddies liked, and I decided that it might be kind of fun to swap out the white...

    Flavors from Cedar Aging

I cedar aged a gallon of pale ale that I made and it made it extremely dry and sort of musty flavored. I may have done it for too long. Maybe this was just my experience, but I'm guessing cedar isn't going to impart citrusy flavors.

    My cal common just tastes...boring.

So the amount of yeast in the bottle will be enough to affect 5 gallons? That actually sounds pretty interesting, so maybe I will do that!

    My cal common just tastes...boring.

Thanks! This is the kind of advice I was looking for. Maybe mash at closer to 154? What is your reason behind moving the hops to 5 and 0 instead of 20?

    My cal common just tastes...boring.

That's sort of the problem. I LOVE cal commons. Normally they have big full malt flavor and exactly the right bitterness flavor, aroma. I was really excited to make my own cal common! But this just doesn't taste right. It tastes thin, but I'm confused as to why since my OG was over by a ton...

    My cal common just tastes...boring.

Orval dregs? Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is that?

    My cal common just tastes...boring.

    Black Common Recipe with Questions

No, I wasn't referring to victory. I was referring to the crystal malts. I guess I should amend my statement before because crystal 60 won't quite be chocolate/coffee, but crystal 120 is definitely pretty roasty. Crystal 60 will give you a fairly strong caramel flavor with maybe a hint of...

    Black Common Recipe with Questions

the recipe looks petty good, but I have a couple suggestions. She mentioned she didn't really like weird flavors like coffee or chocolate, and with about 13% of your grain bill being roasted malts, I have a feeling that's going to taste pretty coffee/roasted, and less grainy than you would like...

adjusting bitterness in a failed whirlpool hop attempt

Dang. A day late and a dollar short haha. I boiled the hops and water last night, and then put it in a French press to remove all the sediment. I threw it in my beer today. I ended up just doing straight water, but dropping the pH and adding some extract is a good idea. Hopefully I won't...

adjusting bitterness in a failed whirlpool hop attempt

do you think i could just boil hops in a quart of water for 60 minutes and add that? its a 5 gallon batch, so i dont think adding a quart of water would make a huge difference as far as watering it down. and as far as my whirlpool IBU, I will definitely calculate it as 0 bitterness from now on...

Whats up with all the Galaxy hopped beers?

anyone ever brewed a galaxy/mosaic pale ale? maybe with some citra too? or would all of that just be overkill and too complex?

WLP080 cream ale yeast in stout?

nailed it i think. I just tried my first taste yesterday. It actually came out really well! it is fairly dry and has a nice sweet malt character, but it is definitely not very pronounced. The body of the stout isn't quite where i feel it should be (considering i added 30% toasted oats to the...

    First time in FastFerment conical

I've never used a conical so I don't think I'll be much help there, but I'm assuming you drained all the trub before you racked the beer to the keg, right? As for the gelatin, yes, it will still work. Just follow normal procedure for gelatin and add it to the keg. Wait two or three days and...

    Analyzing technique for heavy-handed IPAs

I mean, don't get me wrong. Sounds delicious. I just haven't worked up the courage to add 30 dollars in hops to one brew yet. Maybe when I get a raise I'll try one out. :D
