    All Grain Deadspace Mash Question

Well I don't have an answer for you but I will provide my experience with a similar system. I only brew 10g batches right now so I usually have a decent amount of sparge water. I am sure it does effect efficiency when you have a very low amount of sparge water. For me doing a mash out at 168...

    More crap electronics

I built a kal clone last spring. I used the same amp/volt meter, it has been working great for me. There is always an failure rate with electronics, most issues happen early in the life cycle. Since you already have the hole I would give another meter a shot hopefully you don't end up with...

The New Guy - First Post

Fellow upstater here. Dropping in on a homebrew club meeting is a great place to get advice. I attend UNYHA meetings but there is a club or two local to Buffalo. I know there are several guys growing hops in my club I am sure you will find several locally. Here is a recipe i tried a year ago...

My eHERMS build (Kal clone with tweaks)

Thanks Kal. I agree that the mash in temp is not necessary. Running the pumps wide open causes the mash in temp to follow the hlt closely. It is interesting info watch as you ramp temps. If they did not have the 1/32 DIN PIDs I would not have bothered.

My eHERMS build (Kal clone with tweaks)

I did my first batch two weeks ago. A 10 gallon batch of Kal's electric pale ale seemed appropriate. Its just finishing dry hopping and should be kegged this weekend. The only big issue I had was clogging a pump during the whirl pool. I usually use pellets but had some older whole hops I...

My eHERMS build (Kal clone with tweaks)

I started acquiring parts in March for this build. I brewed my first batch a few weeks ago and will be kegging it this Friday. The vent is not in any of these images but it is a 30qt mixing bowl and 4" blower. The main differences from Kal's setup is the following. 1. Cheap ($99) 80qt...

About Time To Document This (Strut/Penrose/BCS-460 System)

Great build hyper! I am building a Kal clone now. One of the things that seems to come up as a common issue is pulling air in the sight glass causing cavitation. The common cause is not using a loose crush. Kal recommends .45 for the gap. Since you are reticulating you do not need a fine...

    Jaybird's Stainless False Bottoms

Jay I am looking at your jaybird false bottom for a 20 gallon Spike Brewing kettle. My MLT would have a 1/2 welded NPT fitting. I planned on mounting a short 90 degree 1/2" dip tube attached to a compression fitting inside. Normally they mount the fitting 1.5" from the bottom of the kettle. I...

    Feedback on new eHERMS Plans

Hi all. I am looking to get some feed back on a new brewing rig. I have been brewing for a while with a 15 gallon stock pot on a bayou burner, small immersion chiller, and a 52QT cooler MLT with steel braid. I currently batch sparge. I am very happy with the consistency and efficiency of...
