Finally ordered the Blichmann Therminator. Tips?

We use a Therminator as well and I use the Hop Rocket ahead of it for different brews (it is a great filter when filled with whole hops). Cleaning is a bit of a chore, but as others have stated above, flush with PBW, back flush, flush again, and sanitize before the next brew.

    E-Stop to Contactor?

I put an e-stop circuit on my system to cut power to hazardous components (gas flow solenoids, and pumps) that, when power is removed, eliminates the hazard; but not to control voltage (PLC, touch screen, level sensors, etc). Other componets, like automated ball valves still need power to...

    ferm chamber idea

A large part of the chance of mold will depend on how warm it is in the garage (and therefore how humid it is in the chamber). An option, you could use a "plastic wrap" to seal the open portion of the "water bath container" around the fermenter to minimize water vapor inside the chamber. If...

    Kettle as mash tun questions

We have had good results with the HERMS system we built. 30 gallon kettles with 75K BTU burners under each kettle. We circulate the wort constantly. While mashing, the Mash burner is used for short time frames. I have done step mashes without any issues. You do have to be mindful of when to...

    Temperature conditions for fermentation

It depends on the yeast and on your preference. If you don't want a lot of esters, ferment on the lower range. If you prefer more of them then ferment on the higher end. For example the White Labs American Hefeweizen (WPL320) has a range of 65 to 69 degrees F. If you ferment in the 64 to...

    Costco danby kegerator review

I bought the same model from Costco about a year ago and have not had any issues with it. It is a great kegerator for the price, and as Bizzam states, Costco's return policy is really good!

    Brew Shed - Soliciting Feedback

Sounds like a great project! 18 inches of clearance between the sink and the brewing counter (based on the scale in the drawing) may not be enough space for that corner. An option to consider, build your brewing platform like a workbench with locking castors on all four corners. This way...
