    Floaties

This probably shouldnt be in the recipes section, but I have seen this with -04. I brewed a belgian that took off like a rocket and then didnt do too much for a couple weeks. When I went to rack to secondary it took off again and chunks were everywhere. I had a fair amount of chunks that...

    IPA recipe advice

Looks pretty good, I would tend to add some of the middle hops toward the end (ie. maybe take the 10min hops and add more at 5 min and flameout). Also I like to add a little more to the dry hop, maybe reserve the colombus from the 15 and 10 and add that as a secondary dry hop. Centennial for 5...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

I guess they redid it, I saw it in the last byo that was recently published. Cover was all about Cider.

No Activity in Starter - Used it Anyway!

Man, should have waited it out. There was no action this morning but when I came home from work, the yeasties were doing their thing. It only made me nervous that there was NO activity in the starter, so with the lag in primary I figured it was a dud. Yeast are amazing organisms. All is well...

No Activity in Starter - Used it Anyway!

Its definitely a slow start, there is ZERO activity, so I am assuming gravity would be the same. Maybe I didnt wash the yeast properly or made too big a starter (1L). Will the yeast eventually get going, I dont mind waiting, but I dont want to run a risk if I should just re pitched now...

No Activity in Starter - Used it Anyway!

I brewed a brown ale with WL002. Violent fermentation, beer came out great. Decided to wash this yeast, so after primary fermentation, I racked the brown ale to secondary and washed the yeast. Made a starter late in the afternoon, and let it go over night. The next day, there was no activity...

Heady Topper- Can you clone it?

Apologize if this has already been said, but Heady Topper was cloned in the latest BYO magazine. Any thoughts on that one?

Can I bottle condition in a growler

I also have bottle conditioned in a growler, although it was the swing top grolsch style. Came out just fine. Although you have to be ready to drink the whole growler cause it does stay carbed for days on end.

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Coconut Cream Stout-competition runner up

I used 05 and it came out fantastic, very clean yeast. Have to say, just racked to secondary and this is one of the best stouts I have tasted out of primary. High high hopes for this, in fact, after tasting a little, I poured a half glass and put it in the fridge. Even flat and young, man it...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Coconut Cream Stout-competition runner up

Gotcha, thanks for the feedback. I was thinking it over, and dont know if I want a whole case of coconut stout. Gonna bottle most as is, and then on maybe 6-12 bottles left add some coconut extract.

    Clear Primary, Cloudy Secondary

That sounds reasonable. It's no longer "cloudy" but it is by no means "clear". It might just be how this brew is going to be. And I'm ok with that. Took it out of swamp cooler and it's just sitting in the basement. The temperature has dropped where I am at so it's about the same.

    Clear Primary, Cloudy Secondary

Thats about the as long as I have been brewing, have made all different styles, ABV levels, stouts, belgians, kolsch, ipa, etc and have not come across this until now. I took a look at it this morning, and its hard to explain, but its almost the difference between a glossy and matte finish...

    Too Toasted?!?

Didnt use any whirlfloc, moss, finings, etc. Also, I let the toasted grains cool down before mashing, but no I did not let them sit. I have read this as well, and in the same post, some of the responses said they have used malts right after without a problem. The curious thing about the...
