    Clear IPA?

Hello! So I did my first all grain ipa batch but it didn't turn out exactly how I planed. What I want is an ipa that's pretty clear with a brown, reddish color. Similar to maybe a dogfish 60 min or Sam Adams latitude 48. I use 13lbs of grain for a 5 gallon batch, and used a mixture of 2-row...

Might of poured my wort too fast...

Okay, that makes me feel a little more confident. I had a plan to use one of those hand held strainers while using an auto siphon to put the wort into the ferementer, but I simply did not have time. Also, alot of grain was coming through when putting it into my pot so Ill have to get a better...

Might of poured my wort too fast...

So I was in a hurry after finishing the boil. After cooling down in an ice tub(took close to 45 mins :/) I poured the wort in pretty fast. A large layer of foam appeared at the top. I pitched the yeast and sloshed it around but I still saw a thick layer of foam with some yeast sitting on top...

    Cant get to boiling temp...

So I have started to heat my wort to boiling, an hour and a half later it is sitting at 210F. Not fully boiling, some bubbles are popping up here and there but I have to start because I have somewhere to be at 5. So i start pitching my hops. I am doing a 6.5 gallon boil on a standard electric...

How much water goes in the mash?

Hello, I am about to start doing all grain. I have a recipe lined up and I am going to do a full boil of 6.5 gallons using my 8 gallon brew kettle. Question is, How much water is supposed to go into the mash tun? Im sure this varies depending upon what you want your OG to be, but to be honest I...

Disaster has struck... need some experienced opinions

Okay, thanks for the opinion. And yes, it is a bottling bucket. In an effort to save money I planned on using it for the 2 weeks of fermenting instead of getting a secondary fermenter, and then will use the spigot and a funnel with a hose on the end of it to bottle my beer.

Disaster has struck... need some experienced opinions

Okay, so I bought a Midwest supplies beer bucket. The spigot attached to it was kind of a PITA to install, but i finally got it. Sanitized it, brewed my beer, poured it in, and boom had 5 gallons of delicious IPA fermenting. Day 5 rolls along, time to dry hop. I slowly open the lid and notice...

    Boil Schedule

Oh and one more question.. I want to do a 60 min boil so I can vary when to add in my combination of hops. Is this to much for a lme boil?

    Boil Schedule

Hey! I am brewing 5 gallons of an IPA using 6 lbs pale malt extract and 1lb light malt extract. I am planning on using 5 gallons of water for the boil, but my question is, is it better to put all 7 lbs of lme right when the boil starts or to portion it out, say half at the beginning and half at...

Okay to use malt like specialty grains?

Okay to use malt like specialty grains?

Hey, sorry for the un-descriptive title. I am brewing using LME because I lack the equipment to start all grain brewing(Even though i really REALLY want to..) and I want to use crystal grains to add more flavors and sugars. With this being said, I want to know if it would be okay to add a lb of...

How much water goes into the fermenter(5 gallons)?

Oh wow, I am really glad I asked. I was planning on only using 1.2 gallons during the boil and I am using 7.5lbs of LME. Would 3 gallons be a better amount? I would prefer to do a partial boil.

How much water goes into the fermenter(5 gallons)?

Hi everyone, I am moving up from a 2 gallon brew kit to a 6.5 fermenter. I constructed a recipe for a 5 gallon batch, and while I have the boiling part planned out, Im still not sure how much water to a)put in the fermenter before I pour in the cooled wort and b) how much should go in after...

    Safale US-05 yeast for IPA?

Awesome, thanks everyone! And I used a yeast calculator that gave me a 7.5 - 8g yeast result. Maybe I underestimated my OG... would 11.5g be a good amt?
