    worlddivides, how much whiskey did you use? And yes, I'll be using bourbon. I am thinking that I will soak the vanilla beans and just add the whole thing to the secondary.

    Adding alcohol boost to AHS kit

    quick question

    Hey guys. I took an initial reading and that was around 10% potential alcohol. Took a reading today (a week later) and the potential alcohol is less than 5%. Is that normal or did something go wrong?

    I did my first brew on Monday and today there doesn't seem to be much activity in the carboy. The airlock is only bubbling once every 45 seconds. Is this normal? The beer is at about 62 degrees which falls in the range for my yeast. Maybe just a bit worried since this is my first time...

    No it's not that warm down there! I'm up in NY and its about 20 outside. The thermometer in the side of the carboy is reading 70-72. The yeast was Safale US-04

    So the tubing I have doesn't fit over the center of the airlock. It seems as though the krasen has gone down a bit. Should I just keep an eye on it tonight and see how it progresses?

    Will the krasen continue to come out? I have the tubing that came with my kit and that looks like it will fit over the center of the airlock...will that work?

    Do you mean take the lead off the airlock and run the tubing from that to the jar of starsan? Do you always need to use a blow off tube on a carboy and not just the airlock?
