    Am I missing something here?

I bought 2 3/8" compression fittings the other day at home depot. They are 3/8" tubing to 1/2" FPT pipe. This is so I can then connect my QD's to my CFC. I brought them home and went to put them on my 3/8" OD copper tubing I made my CFC out of and was pretty surprised when there was no...

    General Brewing Parts Stores

I don't know of a better place to put this thread... but move it if it needs to be. I have been shopping around for good parts to build various addons for my new brew-rig and have been floored by the customer service I have received at McMaster Carr and Buyfittingsonline.com (division of...

    Recipe Question

So I was on the lookout for a good Irish Red to brew for the fall on my new AG rig and came across one buried in the forum's recipe locator thread. There is a link to it in my signature. Does anyone else feel like the grain bill is a bit overkill. I mean Maris Otter is a good base for the...

    Pickup tube for boil kettle

This is my current idea for a pickup tube in my boil kettle. I might actually use the same thing in my HLT, just modified a little bit since I wont need a hop screen. The reason for the funky shape here is exactly that....a hop screen. Since the avail. of plug/leaf hops is so scarce these...

    Wiring a March Pump

Since a simple google search combined with a forum search turned up no results, I am turning to the experts here to augment my lack of electrical abilities. I recently purchased a March pump sans plug. I plan on wiring it to my stand with a switch, but I mainly want to know what I need to...

    Weekend Project

This was my project for this afternoon. I made it to fit into my Igloo 60qt cooler. I was wondering what suggestions everyone has for cutting the holes in the bottom....how many???? what size????? etc.

    Thermometer

Does anyone have this thermometer http://www.williamsbrewing.com/SELF-CALIBRATING_DIGITAL_P1434C102.cfm? I need to know the width of the stem (although I am pretty confident its 1/4") I would like to err on the side of caution here and confirm my suspicions.

    Ball Valve Material

Anyone think of any problem with carbon steel 3 piece ball valves? I assume they might rust...but given that they are only in contact with the wort /water for short periods of time and cleaned/dry all the rest, I would think there wouldnt be a problem.

    Sight Glass Project

Testing the waters to see if anyone is interested in a sight glass. I am going to try and build my own for my setup and McMaster gives pretty good bulk discounts on items. I don't mind putting them together, as long as people are willing to pay for the materials and shipping....the savings...

    Any interest in a CFC?

I have extra materials to build a CFC with black rubber hose (Sears) and interior copper. Its 25 ft in length. The price will probably be around 55ish plus shipping (FedEx from 06248.) Know if you are interested.

    Final Touches

I recently welded together my two tier stand and am in the process of aquiring all the finishing touches for the system to take off. Once I suck it up and pay the 100 bucks for the subscription, I will post pictures (I also need to clean up the sorry welds and paint it.) What I need are...

All Grain Transition: Work in progress

So I am in the process of turning everything over to all-grain. I will be upping the batch sizes to 10 gallons and switching the method to grain at the same juncture....strictly to minimize the cost associated. My current equipment is as follows: 2 Keggles (Kettle and HLT) 1 Igloo 60 qt...

    Burner Question

I am in the middle of drawing up plans for a single tier sculpture. I am at the point of researching and hunting for materials to satisfy the needs of said sculpture. I think I have found the burners I will be using...

    Blichmann Fermenator Clone

So I am currently investigating making my own Blichmann Fermenator clone. The 14.5 is calling my name. As part of this setup, I want to make a clone of his blow-off setup. I have not been able to find the part I need to get a tri-clamp connection attached to the lid. Everything else is...

    Dry Hopping yay/nay

So i am cloning the Victory Hop Devil IPA this month. The brew is in the primary (has been for around 6 days) and it calls for dry hopping pretty soon. Since (due to lack of funding, closet space, and sheer floor space) i don't own a proper secondary fermenter, i plan on dry hopping in the...

    Krappy Kettle Conversion

So i bought a kettle from Ocean State JobLot and i was looking at this "false bottom" stuff that all grain brewers use. I was thinking about converting this cheap pot into something similar. What i would like to do is drill out a hole near the bottom of the side of the pot and inserting a valve...

    Calculations Page?

I have searched for it and have been unable to find it... but i want wondering if there was some way we could get a thread put somewhere on the forum containing formulas for calculating all the different "things" in home brewing. Such as, IBA, Ab/v, Ab/w, etc. I am interested in the actual...

The Poor Man's Guide to an Extract/Steeped Grains Brewery

As far as equipment goes, ill just lend my 2 pennies and be done. I only started this brewing about three weeks ago and it was pretty much an impulse decision. I love beer and i was on the Sam Adams site and they had a home brewing contest and i thought it would be cool. I went a liquor store...

    Yeast

As i read more and more i see people saying that part of the reason they leave the beer in primary for 3 weeks or secondary for 2 is to allow the yeast to fall out of suspension. But i also see plenty of people talking about bottle conditioning. Why do we want the yeast to fall out of suspension...

    Yeast types and misc information

For my next batch, i PLAN on using Wyeast American Ale Yeast (1056) and was wondering what the rule is on generating a more alcoholic beer. I know that the yeast will ferment when it has things to snack on, but i also know that you can kill yeast by making it eat and eat and eat and then the...
