Coffee Stout, Adding Crushed/Ground Coffee to Secondary

I think any of these options listed above will work and you can find which works best for you through trial and error. Whenever I do this I make cold press coffee because I have the equipment to properly make cold press coffee (which I do all summer and it's amazing). That said, a muslin bag...

New 120v 2000 watt recirculating BIAB

Yes!!! Imperial Stouts are a post brew celebratory brew for certain. Nice setup though, I have a very similar one also based off a PJ diagram. Good news is that if you need to in the future a bigger kettle is an easy, if more expensive, problem to fix. :tank:

3 taps - what would you chose?

a hoppy beer a dark beer and a more neutral beer like a ESB or something

    Newbie from Minnesota

If you choose to skip the secondary fermentation you can leave it on the primary for the total time in the direction for both the primary and secondary. If you are doing only primary it helps to strain your wort or to use a hop bag to keep sediment out of it. I've also found it useful to move...

    Has anyone brewed this ESB?

Probably can't go wrong with something like that, I love a good bitter. Might as well grab one if it's limited edition yeast.

First time using a commercial starter

I was skeptical at first but I bought a four pack last year and am not looking back. I hated DME and these are ridiculously easy and yield a great end product.

    Newbie from Minnesota

Yeah Minneasota representing! Minneapolis here. Don't worry about the alcohol smell now, let sit and hang out for a bit. If it has a burning alcohol taste when your bottling then you have more of a problem likely due to fermenting at too high of a temperature. But in the meantime try to forget...

    Bar Build Part 2: 8-tap Through-the-Wall Keezer

Love watching this seeing that I have a half unfinished basement and briefly thought of building something similar (albeit much simpler). Can't wait to see the finished product

    What makes a great brewday

Hopefully not making a giant mess is what makes me happy but... more seriously though (read: realistically speaking) I love the simplicity of it. I no sparge and like the limited amount of steps and equipment needed to brew.

    Stretch out your yeast dollar?

Eh... that sounds risky to me. Saving an open package of dry yeast? I'd rather just repitch yeast from a previous batch any day. There are lots of ways to go about that.

Can an auto-siphon and a chiller linked together?

Haha! I never did this but I totally destroyed a plastic test tube taking boiling liquid before the 60 minute hop addition to get the preboil gravity reading I forgot to take earlier.

Session IPA vs. Hoppy Pale Ale

It's all about personal perception unless of course we're talking about BJCP guidelines. So... in my personal opinion a session IPA has less body, preferably little to no crystal malts, has more hop aroma and flavor meaning more back end hops, and comes in between 4-4.5% ABV. APAs are more...

    Simple question about flaked oats

I already had Beersmith opened to a chocolate stout I'm making so for your purpose I increased and decreased the flaked oats and the OG and FG went up or down depending on what I added or subtracted. Play with the amounts and check it out, the programs got your back :ban:

    RIS Recipe critique

I'm not a RIS expert but here are a few thoughts: *I like would use a different yeast. The 05 can be a power house and really chew through beers to a lower gravity than I would want for a RIS. *If you're pitching onto a yeast cake (which I've done a lot of on big beers) I've found that temp...

    Recirculating eBIAB Build

Hot damn that's gonna look nice! Love those kettles... or any nice boil kettle really. I did my eBIAB setup on the cheap side and got a low cost kettle that doesn't look nearly that nice and fancy. You're going to love this!

New 120v 2000 watt recirculating BIAB

Awesome! I built a pretty similar system a few years ago also based off of one of PJ's designs. Love brewing small and simple.

What do you use when you squeeze BIAB?

Do any of you folks that use a ratchet and pulley or built a frame to hang your bag from mind sharing some pictures or a link to another thread. I'm debating what to upgrade to right now from the hoist and squeeze method.

Learn the hard way: Shut the valve on the plastic big mouth bubbler....

Why does it always seem you need to learn the hard way? I remember one time, years ago, learning to make sure that the valve on the bottling bucket was in the closed position after losing one or two gallons onto the floor while siphoning my beer in. Now I've purchased a new plastic Big...

    I bought a keg setup

Jeez, $170 ain't a bad startup price at all. Kegging will change your life!

Converting a coffin keezer to a collard wooden top

So anyways, there's a couple problems with the rebuild. The first is that the lid was destroyed. Holes cut through for beer lines for some reason the hinges were replaced with door hinges that support zero weight and it was obviously covered with mortar and tiled. I've got a plan in my head...
