    Micro-Brewery

I do, I use the taps in my kitchen to fill my 240 litre HLT. I actually use a bit of a cheat, I fill some guttering with cleaning solution and do most of my washing in that, also it doubles as a sterile store for equipment not in use. I was my vessels using a pressure washer. In terms of good...

    Micro-Brewery

Not so much generous, more just people who dont understand the value of the kit I ask for. The set up has changed, its a 240 litre barrel as the HLT, boil and mash are done in 2 50 litre kegs and fermentation is done in 2 30 litre barrels, I'm working on upgrades but its a slow process, couldnt...

    Element operating at lower power

Thanks for the replies guys, the confusion was that I thought you meant using smaller elements but it makes sense using the larger elements, I completely understand ohms law but like yousaid electricity is dangerous so I wanted some other ideas brought to the table. I am seriously considering...

    Element operating at lower power

I'm thinking about these replies I can see where pwm comes in but the moment the ssr goes on then the full 17 amps will go through which will trip my fusebox. Wiring multiple smaller elements in series is an idea but when hooked up to the mains electricity surely the first element will receive...

    Element operating at lower power

Thanks for the reply guys, an ssr will be used, but ssr is simply a switch that would allow the full power to flow I'm not totally sure how to reduce the power, I was originally going to use resistors

    Element operating at lower power

Hey guys So I'm trying to hook up the elements to my HLT and hop back but the perfect element I want (due to thread size and shape is 4kw which mauls my home electrics so I want to restrict the power going to it so it doesn't use all 4kw but my question is, will it even heat up?

    Step up mashing

Hello siblings of the web I posted a short time ago about my microbrewery project and with regret finance has hindered me.... So I donned my grinder and drill said a prayer and cannibalised a "difficult" keg. The result was a keggle, now with a swan neck pipe on the outlet and a ball valve in...

    My First Brew!

yeh sure sorry if I dont make sense. I use Isanglas which is fish collagen to clear out my beer, I add it during secondary to clear out all the proteins and the gunk and all that stuff, so I will still add it as well as the dry hopping. But obviously there is going to be the hop sedament so...

    Are discolored faucet parts ok?

discoloration is fine, if you look under your tap you will see the same thing, dont worry about it too much, obviously as time progresses it will get worse, but dont worry until it flakes.

    My First Brew!

Thats why we always advise letting the keg to settle and dont move it, because the beer will settle if you have added your fining agent

Draft Tower Cooling wired directly to Fridge?

I'm just thinking wouldnt it be easier to buy yourself a splitter for the mains so you save yourself lots of splicing and messing with electricals, also you dont take space away from your other appliances as the splitter takes 1 plug socket

Started fermenting a new batch. Is this mold?

I'm a biotech student and I can tell you mould or funghi come in many different shapes and colours, to play it safe I would skim the trouble colonies with about a 2mm buffer zone to be on the safe side

    Glass rinser!

what I would suggest is getting yourself a hose with a gun attachment on it, keep the tap on and use the gun to spray into the glasses....not pretty but i'm sure you can paint it black or some such so it doesnt look so garden like

Size Refrigerator or Freezer to fit Demi John?

hmmm I would suggest finding a cheap second hand fridge and take all of the shelving units and bars out so you can squeeze it in...as for brands im not sure on american ones, but for what you want I would say cheap and nasty second hand. But I am curious what other people suggest

    My First Brew!

I am an intern at a microbrewery, when we dry hop we go from primary and add it to the secondary to chill and mellow and then we rack into kegs and we always advise to leave the kegs to mellow unmoved for another week
