pitching washed yeast without a starter

does this look like enough s05 for a low gravity blonde? It is a pint jar. I'd rather not mess with a starter.

Is a gallon of green trub left after bottling an ipa excessive? Is a hop sock worth using? Other ways to cut down on trub? Seems like a lot of wasted beer.

    Is Boiling Water Really Necessary?

Does city tap water really have bacteria in it? Is it necessary to boil water for rehydrating yeast, topping up, washing yeast etc? (I know that boiling does help with chlorine but I'm thinking more about bacteria.)

    Dilute beer at bottling?

I know it is common to top up the wort on brew day. Would it work to top up on bottling day with boiled water? I only ask because i have a 5 gal carboy i would like to ferment it but can probably only put 4 gal of wort in it. (Sorry meant to place under general techniques).

Dry Hop Citra Pale Ale with Citra?

I planned on dry hoping the recipe below with an ounce of Citra. Then I started reading that Citra can get pretty overwhelming in a hurry. There was even mention of "cat piss" smell in one colorful description. Anyway, dry hop with Citra, something else, a mix, or nothing? Thanks. Citra...

Citra Blond (or pale ale) critiques please

What do you think? This is loosely based on the BMs Centennial Blonde with some tweaks to make it a bit darker and more hoppy...oh and with Citra for flavor/aroma and Magnum for bittering. So I guess it is a totally different recipe. Would you make any changes? Citra Blond - Blonde Ale...

1.018 gravity after 2 wks, worth intervening?

It is a SNPA clone. OG was 1.058. 12.5 lbs of 2 row. 1 lb of crystal 60. Mashed at 152. Nottingham yeast fermented at 59 to 62 degrees for 2 weeks. I know the fg is borderline acceptable but i was hoping for a drier ale. The sample i took for gravity tasted a bit too sweet, it sort of...

Sucked yeast cake into bottling bucket

I turned my back on the siphon and when I went back to it the racking cane had slumped all the way to the bottom of the primary and was pumping sludge into the bottling bucket which I had already primed :-( It probably did this for 30 seconds...lesson learned. It's the centennial blonde ale...

    Carboys suck...right?

I just spent 7 hours cleaning out my glass carboy that I used for secondary. I was so wishing I had another bucket to use instead. It was pretty cool to show my friends a 5 gal bottle of stout but it doesn't seem worth it. Why are they still used? Nostalgia? Am I missing something...

Does the bittering hop variety matter much?

I know that the aa of the variety matters but besides that, what is the difference? If all the 60 min addition does is add bitterness can I just use whatever hop is lying around? Bitter is bitter right?
