Mashed with non-modified cooler to see if I like all grain

I use a paint strainer bag in an igloo drinking water cooler. I call it "mash in a bag".

Great deal on a refractometer on Amazon

I bought this one. I clicked the make offer button and offered them $13. They accepted my offer. Total with shipping was $20. I've used it several times and I really like it.

    way too much foam

Over night in the fridge is not long enough. You need to leave them in the fridge for a couple of weeks for proper carbonation. A good rule of thumb is 3 weeks at room temp and then 2 weeks in the fridge.

Nice. Here's a good video I found explaining when your hops are ready to be picked. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=TlsT-x19III&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DTlsT-x19III

I'm not a hop expert, so I'm not sure what you mean by body. I've read and watched several articles and videos describing when hops should be ready, so I think the ones I picked were ready. I can definitely smell the fresh hop aroma. I drank my hydrometer sample last Saturday and you could...

    Triple hop brewed.

I picked this hop today. I wonder if this is what they mean when they say Miller Lite is triple hop brewed. :D

I know what you mean by how fast they grow in one day. It's almost like you can see them growing before your eyes. We also get frost. I guess I'll see how they do this winter. Last winter was really mild compared to the two previous ones. I just got done picking some more. I got about an ounce...

Hey guys. I've been following KeyWestBrewer's thread and also posted on there a few times. Since I'm basically across the state from you, I thought I'd share some pics and thoughts on the Cascades that I'm growing. I planted my two rhizomes in late March. They are on the south side of the house...

    2 Gallon Mash Tun?

You should be able to find paint strainer bags at a hardware store, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. I think the last time I bought some, there were two, 5 gallons bags to a package for around $5.

    2 Gallon Mash Tun?

I do what I call "mash in a bag". I also put my paint strainer bag in the cooler. I changed the valve out because the one that comes with the cooler is the kind that you have to press in and hold to get the liquid to flow out. I installed a valve that I could leave open and then do other things...

    DIY ferment bucket question

The hole is 1/2-9/16. I bought a 1/2 spade bit, drilled the hole, then used a round file to make the hole the right size. I bought the grommet and bit at Home Depot. I brew batches around 3 gallons, so I bought a 5 gallon bucket and lid at Lowe's. Price for everything was $10-$15.
