To keg or not to keg??

Seriously, just start off bottling. A co-worker of mine was intrigued when he found out I was a homebrewer. He asked me all about the process and I gave him a few beers. A few months later he had an all-grain RIMS system, 6 kegs, and a keezer. He brewed 4 batches or so, then just...

Wanting a bit of Diacetyl in my pils

If you bring the temp down slowly, any healthy lager yeast should continue working, although at a slower rate. You may be able to reach final gravity without lowering diacetyl as significantly. Also, while filtering or gelatin may not completely remove all the yeast, it will reduce the...

Wanting a bit of Diacetyl in my pils

I love Urquell as well; I agree you need a touch of diacetyl to really replicate the experience. I suggest using wlp800 and dropping to lagering temp before you reach final gravity. It will generally fade as you lager, however. Perhaps you could fine with gelatin or possibly filter to really...

To keg or not to keg??

I suggest you start with bottling for 2 reasons. Less investment upfront: you can ensure this is a hobby you will enjoy without breaking the bank. You will want to bottle condition anyway: You will want to bottle condition a brew eventually. I would not dream of kegging a big Belgian...

No Carbonation after 12 Weeks. Any ideas?

I'm 100% sure that I added the priming solution. I boiled with a cup or so of water, cooled, added to the bucket and racked on top. I also stirred well before filling the bottles. I did soak the bottles in star san before and there was definitely some foam. However, everything I have...

No Carbonation after 12 Weeks. Any ideas?

As far as I know it was corn sugar. It was from a kit and was labeled as such, although I did not taste it. The caps seem fine and have worked well on other batches.

No Carbonation after 12 Weeks. Any ideas?

I used WLP400. Fermentation seemed to go fine.

No Carbonation after 12 Weeks. Any ideas?

OK, I will try a full week in the fridge. But, in my experience, 2 days has always been fine. I am convinced there is not enough C02 on those bottle to carbonate the beer. This is a "very" slight hiss, and the beer is 100% flat. Flat as tap water. No bubbles at all.

No Carbonation after 12 Weeks. Any ideas?

Hello Everyone. I have been trying to bottle carbonate a low gravity Belgian Wit for almost 12 weeks now. I have tried to be patience with this process, but I think something has gone wrong. OG = 1.042 FG = 1.010 Partial mash with DME. Fermented for 19 days in primary, 1 vial of...

Partial mash with 5 gallons of water?

Yeah, it was a partial mash kit from AHS. 5 lbs of extract and 3.5 lbs of malt grain. It specified how much water to use when doing the seep, but i thought that was just a minimum amount that would be easy to work with on the stove top. I really thought it was just the water temperature, not...

Partial mash with 5 gallons of water?

Hi everyone. I just did my first brew this weekend. I tried to be fancy and picked out a partial mash kit with 3 lbs of malt. Since i have an outdoor propane burner, I decided to keep everything outside and do a full boil. I followed the rules for the most part, but I think I really...
