    Water filter query

Thanks for that, VABeersnob, the filter comes with a carbon filter but I switched it out for the 1 micron filter in the attached in my original post, I presumed it was better than the carbon filter. the website sells the 1 micron filters are replacements

    Water filter query

Hey all, hoping someone can help me with this, I bought the attached http://www.thehomebrewcompany.ie/polypropylene-replacement-cartridge-1-um-p-4648.html I have made two beers using this water filter and the finished beer has a distinct flavour coming from the filter itself. Perhaps I have...

    Oatmeal stout

interesting so the Budweiser article was for a Baltic stout then considering it was a lager yeast. Id say the irish ale yeast will impart a nice estery character to compliment the oatmeal stout. I opened up the first bottle on Thursday and even though its only 3-4 weeks in the bottle it is...

    Oatmeal stout

Hey there, the ABV came in at just about 6.5%, it was my own recipe alright. I have made quite a few stouts to its just a couple of tweaks on a stout recipe I used many times before with a little less roasted malt and obviously oats. Havent entered it into a comp or anything, I might be...

    Oatmeal stout

Hey All, I thought id share my most recent Oatmeal stout recipe. I used a lot less roasted grains than my normal stouts to give the smooth flavour. Its also the first time I used malted Oats, I normally use rolled/flaked. 5kg Irish Ale Malt 1.4kg Malted Oats 100g Special B 150g Chocolate 110g...

    Pilsner recipe with Ale yeast

Howdy all, Reporting back on my Ale fermented Pilsner recipe. I have to say this turned out very tasty indeed, its super clean, a touch grainy malt, a touch of the Saaz hop flavour and aroma on it but not much. It is definitely not a lager, I would say its not as sharp, and I def don't get...

Best Dried Yeast for a Hefe?

p.s. anyone have a Maisel's Weisse clone?:off: I suspect that nearly all traditional weissen breweries (Schneider, Weihenstephaner, erdinger) keep the grist bill very simple and similar to each other for their standard weissen. between 50-70% wheat, the rest is pilsner. the house...

American Brown Ale Leftover American Brown

Here is a picture finally of the finished product. Well it's not an American Brown, more of an American Porter, too much choc, coffee and caramel for a brown. Not a bad drinking beer but just not to style

American Brown Ale Leftover American Brown

Had my first pour of this last night, It needs some time to mellow, a lot of strong flavours hit me all at once with this one, I certainly hope it mellows together nicely with some time. Its a little overpowering with the bitter coffee flavour, also the hops have clashed with the malt. I will...

    Disaster Struck

This is one of my biggest grievances when it comes to the Grainfather. First of all, why not just give us a pre-welded false bottom? That motherfarker is damn near impossible to get into place, the rubber gasket keeps sliding off, and then this kind of stuff happens. Happened to me to once, that...

    Disaster Struck

Yes the failure was caused by the rubber gasket which sits around the false bottom. the rubber had come off which allowed the false bottom to fall into the kettle.

    Disaster Struck

Hey All, Thought id share my brewday with ye all for your entertainment. Brewed an American Brown ale on my grainfather. Everything was going just perfect. Great grain crush, efficiencies were high, wort had just the right colour. then when I lifted the grain basket up, to begin the...
