Yup, its really nice to have on hand if you need to replace airlock content at any point. I often only have Star San on hand during my brew weekends, but if I need to say -- dry hop, or take gravity reading weeks later that isn't always the case.
No but it might slow it down a wee bit. See if you can get your bottles into a warmer spot... 64f is a little on the cool side. I tend to use about 5oz of priming sugar per 5 gallons -- I think you are in the 2.3-2.4 Co2 volumes range there so it won't be massively carbed either so it really...
Yup -- weigh out (seriously...) a gallon of water in something like a milk just, mark that sucker so you know what a gallon is for next time. Pour the water in your kettle --- I bet it is off a wee bit.
Also ... the first hydrometer I had was off .... :| Having 2-3 is never a bad thing, but...
I think my occasional minimalism is pretty ****ing excellent. If I want to make a beer that is 3 gallons or less and am out of primaries I warm up my mash water on my glass top stove, mash in (BIAB) and then put the whole brew pot in my oven which I occasionally turn on for about 10 minutes per...
... if you are going to brew your own save your money. You can get a used 5 gallon keg for $29.99 frequently. This $160 would go a long way towards getting the lines, regulator and everything else you need. While you say you'd never need a fullsize keg, if you ever do get to brewing .. you...
Did you make a starter or just drop the liquid yeast int your primary? 40 hour lags on older liquid yeast would not be uncommon. With a range between 62f and 72f you should be good 64-65 ambient temps without everything getting to warm.
Give it another day ...
If you are pitching a whole pack of US-05 into one gallon you may over pitching quite a bit. I do 2.5 and 3 gallon patches and sometimes I literally pitch half a pack and save the rest for the next beer.
... this is very welcome. I wan't sure 120v would be enough to get a 6g boil going (I'll never want more than a 5.25g final volume), I don't mind if it takes a while. Honestly the electrical side of thing freaks me out as well. It'd be an awful shame to miss up the ground and fry myself :)...
I'm looking at the 10 gallon Bayou Classic with the thermometer for my BIAB batches. Has anybody got experience with it? Worried that there is the potential for snagging the bag on the thermometer. I was just about to pull the trigger when a friend asked if that was an issue.... this is the...
