I put mine straight in a jug of water and it works fine Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

Keeping exact temperature control during fermentation

Like someone else mentioned about the settings on the STC for allowable tolerance. I believe it is the F2 or F3 value. If it is set for too large of a spread it will cool/heat within the set value. I.e. If you want 65f and the F value on the controller is at 10, it will have a 10 degree...

    kegging noise?

When I crank mine up, I can hear it hiss, but it stops after about 20-30 seconds. That time being mentioned, I had already done the set and forget method for 2 weeks ,so the beer was already somewhat carbed.

Couple extracts under the belt... ideas for good starter all grain setup

Not stupid at all! In fact, I did have the wood char, as I knew it would, but I was impatient and wanted to get my first brew in. It didn't char when I didn't have a heat shield on to guard the thermometers, but when I installed the heat shields due to thermometers shutting off because they...

    CO2 leak?

I guess its possible as this was my first brew ever and consequently haven't experienced with CO2 volumes before. I will be brewing again in the next week or so (maybe a pumpkin ale?), and I will just try to carbonate for higher volumes and see if I end up with the same issue. Thanks!

    CO2 leak?

I had it at the length I bought it at initially (10ft) and it seemed slow, but would get a small head. After reading about balancing the keg system, I cut it down to 6ft and now it is way too fast, and get about 3/4 foam. Back to 10ft here I come! Now I have it at about 47F and at 10PSI. I...

Couple extracts under the belt... ideas for good starter all grain setup

I went big for my very first setup so I can grow into it. Its a HERMS system. For kettles, I bought jarhills 96/70/49 qt stainless stock pots. in gallons, equates to 24/17.5/12.25 gal. On ebay, the 96qt stainless is going for 39.99. if you can find a better deal on stainless, let me know. I...

    CO2 leak?

I thought the same thing about the temp and the mouthfeel, so I filled up a growler, threw it in the fridge and it seemed just as flat if not more so (some has to seep out of the cap even though there is a good seal). With the shake and high psi everyone seems to do, they aren't dispensing at...

    CO2 leak?

It is a new regulator, and the needle does seem to stick when decreasing the PSI, but not increasing. I've watched some youtube videos of the regulator (taprite dual) and everyone seems to do the same thing. Also, no, I'm not comparing to macro's if that's what you mean. I compare it to say...

    CO2 leak?

Finally kegged my first batch ever (vanilla porter) about a month ago and it still isn't carbonated. I used carbonation calculators and for 2.1 volumes at 50F (10c) I set my regulator at 12.5 psi. I sampled at 3 days and was undercarbed as expected. Sampled at 5 days and was about the same...

Banjo Burner low vs. high pressure

Great lessons learned! I hope this saves me some headache if I have the same issue. Thanks for the follow-up.

Banjo Burner low vs. high pressure

Well, looks like I will find out! Glad I'm not the only one who came to that conclusion I just bought some stainless 96/72/48 qt kettles from jarhill for around 85 bucks for 3! Seems like the best deal around and others seem to have success with them. With that being said, the wife wouldn't...

Banjo Burner low vs. high pressure

Hello all, Bare with me as this is my first post and I am new to home brewing. As a lurker for a while on this forum, I have read about high and low pressure banjo burners. I'm going to be building a manual control propane single tier, single pump HERMS setup for starters. I would like...
