I brewed an IPA (OG was 1.061-1.062) used Cellar Science Cali Dry Yeast and have been fermenting at 67 degrees in a mini fridge. Fermentation took off and was vigorous. I used a blow off tube because an airlock wont fit in the fridge, it was bubbling constantly for 2-3 days. Beer cleared up and...
I think you will always get condensation just from opening the lid. I have been using a small container of Damp rid and it absorbs most of the moisture and lasts 6 months to one year.
Hi Everyone,
How many weeks in fermenter? 2 or 3? I used Cellar Science Cali Dry Yeast and have been fermenting at 67 degrees in a mini fridge with an Inkbird. Fermentation took off and was vigorous. I used a blow off tube because an airlock wont fit in the fridge, it was bubbling constantly...
Made my first BIAB batch yesterday. I had a 10LB grain bill and 4.5 OZ of hops in the kettle. I started with 7.5 gallons of water but I ended up with (guestimating) 4.5-4.75 gallons in the fermentor. The hops and grain absorbed more water than anticipated. The recipe should be 1.050 but I...
Thanks Silver Is Money. I appreciate the info! I'm new to BIAB but I am pretty meticulous when it comes to brewing. I like to control as many factors/variables as possible to have the best possible outcome.
Hey Guys,
I'm making the switch to BIAB from extract. I live in southern New England and have well water. My profile is (in PPM/mg/L):
Calcium: 8.5
Magnesium: 2
Sodium: 5.4
Chloride: 12.2
Sulfate: 8
Alkalinity (CaCO3): 25
PH: 5.9
I will primarily be brewing IPAs and NEIPAs. I am...
Good point. Could be a lot of non-fermentable material. My bazooka tube was clogging as I drained the wort into the fermenter. I calculate 18 ounces of sugar per the guava package
First time for me, although our downstairs is cooler than usual.
Thanks HomeBrewMasterRace, you must be on to something. I knew about the alcohol in the refractometer but I thought I had the right calculator to convert it. I just found another calculator here...
Hi Everyone,
I made an experimental pale ale with an extract kit that was about 6+ months old. I used fresh US 05 yeast. The original kit OG should be 1.046 and 4.7% alcohol when done.
I added 2 x 14oz packages of guava paste to make an experimental guava pale ale. I cut them in cubes...
Thanks everyone, I really appreciate the input! I already have a brew bag so I think I'll do BIAB for my first batch and go from there. Now I have to figure out my water chemistry. Thanks!
