Hello all,
I am planning on brewing a tripel today with some substantial yeast needs - so naturally I made a 1.8l starter with my 3787 pack. However - the activity inside the flask never looked too vigorous. The last time I made the same tripel recipe with this same strain; I had krausen...
I am a recent emigrant from SD and am also considering attending the Austin workshop - any insight into the quality or value of these would be very appreciated!
So I made a single hop Columbus IPA with the starter I made with the smack pack in question and it is already vigorously fermenting in less than 24 hrs. No harm done, RDWHAHB!
Brewed another single hop last night with one change to the setup - half the hops went into a nylon mesh bag and half went straight into the kettle. The strainer didn't get clogged and the pump worked like a charm. I would love to make a spider but my gf is not convinced that those paint...
Yeah my gf and I have pondered it all day and are pretty certain the hop strainer is the main culprit. It was intended for whole cones and of course... we didn't use a single cone. ALL PELLETS BABY!
I have been reading about hop bags and there seems to be mixed praise/condemnation for their...
I think its a combination of the pump and strainer making it difficult to properly feed wort to the inlet. It was my first batch with the strainer and the pump. I also was not using quick disconnects; I was using these...
Ok so I found threads... turns out searching homebrewtalk for the thread came up dry but google lead me to the exact thread I needed (in homebrewtalk...?)
I intended to make a starter tonight with a wyeast smack pack only to realize (after breaking it) that I would have no way to cool the starter down before pitching it into the starter wort (my ice supply was depleted and stores were closed).
So I threw that puffed up 1056 right back in the...
Thanks again everyone for responding - however I used said pump tonight for a single hop IPA (centennial) and man was I disappointed. I started out with a powerful flow after I primed it - but the flow would peter out and be incapable of creating a good whirlpool and assisting my immersion...
Thanks everyone - I have not mounted my pump yet so for now I think I will disconnect the inlet hose and simply lift up to gravity feed the outlet into a container to do gravity readings.
Thanks again! Definitely not going to dry run my pump.... :)
Hello fellow brewers and readers - I have just set up my pump system and whirl pool arm w/ my amazing co-brewer and girlfriend - and it rocks.
However - she posed a great question to me that I was incapable of answering:
How do you get the excess wort out of your pump and into your...
I promised to report results and so here I am:
well attenuated, but hop flavor was muted a little by this being the last beer I made without adequate temp control. left it on the yeast for a while and dry hopped for 4 days in a secondary with some C hops.
Some palates that were more...
I don't know how they keep their shipping down so low? Do they temp control the hops en route? I think the flat rate from USPS is not temp controlled but I'm guessing that hasn't been an issue as you use/trust their products?
Thanks for the help. Just had a sample of the pale I did my...
