How to make a 15+% bourbon barrel aged imperial stout

Your details are much appreciated! I recently acquired a 5 gal bourbon barrel and will too be jumping from the cliffs and into the bourbony depths of barrel aged goodness. I've had the barrel for a week now and I don't have much of a choice for where I can store it, so for now it's dry and...

    The Fear in Long Fermentation

I tend to use a little force when I assemble the airlock- I assume each push is a little too much.

    The Fear in Long Fermentation

Sick. Seems like I'm in the clear... I'm really not a fan of plastic caps, I need some rubber stoppers. I'll crack open a bottle and let y'all know how it went in about a week! This was my first batch using an actual pumpkin, and in the mash at that! Hope it goes well for ya if you run with it.

    Very interesting product

I'm having trouble finding more information about this potentially nifty machine. Their site offers no technical specs and the video just does a good job of explaining a growler isn't as good as draft, and drafts should be on your counter, next to your coffee maker. Albeit, it's a cool idea...

    The Fear in Long Fermentation

I added photos and the recipe to the original post, as well as some additional notes. I racked under the floaters, but even with minimal movement of the carboy they seemed to dissipate into nothingness rather quickly. They're bottle conditioning as we speak.

    The Fear in Long Fermentation

My fellow brewers, I've scoured the forum for a little while now and though I've found many answers to a handful of questions regarding my latest brew, I'm curious to hear what your thoughts are on a little issue I have with cracked plastic carboy caps and long periods of fermentation. I...

NEW Brookline/Boston area Home Brew Club

I just settled into a new apartment in Allston (about a 20 minute walk from BosHBS) and would love to jump in on this. I haven't brewed all summer due to the awful condition of my previous kitchen, but I'd love to get to know some local home brewers and talk beer! Has the third meeting been...

    Zero Carbonation!

Sorry for the delay, but I saved one pint of the beer and by god, was it good. It was a couple months ago now. I concocted a priming solution of honey and water for one gallon's worth of brew and measured out one eighth of that solution to add to the one bottle I was attempting to save. I...

Storing extra Wyeast from smack pack

Wonderful, that's what I was hoping to hear. Much appreciated!

Storing extra Wyeast from smack pack

Is yeast washing absolutely necessary? This is the unused yeast I'm talking about- it would be going straight from the packet into a sanitized container and into the fridge. Essentially just giving it a new home after opening the package and using some of it.

Storing extra Wyeast from smack pack

I'm brewing in one gallon batches and picked up Wyeasts' 2112 lager strain for a couple California Common recipes. One of the number of misfortunes I've met with brewing one gallon batches is the amount of yeast I have to purchase (my local shops carry only five gallon quantities) and this is...

IPA in primary- did I add too many hops?

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

IPA in primary- did I add too many hops?

I had not intended on dry hopping initially, but I've been inching towards going for it more and more every day. Any recommendations for what I should dry hop with?

    Zero Carbonation!

I had neglected priming sugar by act of hastiness to get the brew in bottles as I was leaving for 7+ days and was thinking it'd be best to have the beer bottled in my absence. Rookie mistake is all. I had a couple friends recommend how to go about adding some priming sugar to the beer and...

IPA in primary- did I add too many hops?

I didn't wanna overload on hops necessarily. I'm a hop head for sure, but I'm looking at getting a good session IPA under my belt, so this is some good news to hear. I'm excited for the turnout. It's been a few months since my last IPA home brew.
