Hey everyone, I’m wanting to make a stout with the standout taste smooth chocolate. My stouts have always come out with more coffee and roast than chocolate. My main specialty malt is usually chocolate with some added roasted barley and/or carafa III. What malts do you guys find works best for a...
I just got some too, I'll be using it this weekend. I think it would go great in a Black IPA, I doubt it would look weird, even if it is a little hazier than normal.
Hey guys, I've done around 20 batches this year (first yr brewer) and I have yet to use gelatin. The haze never really bothered me because the taste has been great. But when I go out and order a beer and see how clear it is, I get a little jealous! So I'm going to start using gelatin, my...
Well from their site we know its a 10% imperial stout, that is brewed with 4 different malts. I'd guess at two row, crystal 120, chocolate, maybe roasted barley?
Im making a porter recipe now, I've never used brown malt but I've heard other people say it should be in there. So the malts in using are
MO
Munich
Brown
Crystal 80
Chocolate
Black Malt
I don't have the exact figures yet but for a 5 gallon recipe I'm just going to add around 3-4oz...
Hey guys, I'm starting to plan out the winter warmer style ale for the winter. I've brewed about 20 batches and no winter warmer yet. I remember last year I really enjoyed Harpoons Winter Warmer and I've seen there is a BYO clone. But after looking at it, it just seems like a lot of crystal...
I've never had this beer before but it seems like everyone loves it. What is the difference in taste as opposed to Harpoons Winter Warmer? I had that last year and really enjoyed it but looking at the clone for that and the clone for this I'm thinking I should do this one instead. I like that...
lol damnit you got me!
I used 1tbs of my spices in the boil and i think adding another half tbs would be better. How would I go about adding it to the secondary? Just add the spices or I've seen people make a tea out of it. Anyone had experience with this?
Just took a gravity reading after a week because the airlock slowed down to over a minute per bubble. WOW, I could pick up the spices in the aroma and the taste was fantastic. I tested out a new copper manifold I built and my efficiency jumped by 10% so this is a big beer. It still has a lot of...
Also to help people with stuck sparges... I added the pumpkin into a paint straining bag, and put it in the initial strike water while it was heating. Then during the mash I switched the bag in there. Once I finished vorlafing and got a good seal of grains, I unbagged the pumpkin and mixed it...
Brewed this up yesterday, everything went perfect, I used a new manifold that I made for the mash tun and my efficiency came in around 78% when I've been getting around 70%. Needless to say this may be more of an imperial pumpkin. The color was a beautiful vibrant orange and it smelled amazing...
If my LHBS doesn't have victory, should I sub it with biscuit? I know they are similar but I also know that victory is a little bit darker and will add an orange color to the beer. So I'm just worried about using biscuit and having it be too pale in color
