The book Brewing Better Beer by Gordon Strong describes primary at yeast temp until within a few points of final, then let it rise to something around 10 degrees higher for the d-rest. He suggests an equivalent time to the primary fermentation. I am brewing a pils now on day 5 of primary...
I have used Beersmith for 13 years or so.
The UI is complicated. You have to touch many different areas to validate your brew. I have suggested that it be made more process oriented so that you deal with one screen during design, session, water, etc. They are all separate and no order or...
I ordered a probe but haven’t received it. In the meantime I expect to use the one that came with the controller along with a 1/2” NPT thermowell. I haven’t brewed with it yet but testing shows good measurement with slightly slow response. Kind of waiting for the other probe and a Riptide pump...
I've tried oxygen stones and sanitary oxygen, and never knew what I was really doing. Never saw any difference either...so rather than buying oxygen and cleaning yet another piece of gear:
For the last 10 years or so, I've been agitating my fermenter as I chill. I use a carpeted moving dolly...
Just a quick update for anyone that cares....Brewdyquah
I ordered a thermowell on Amazon and after it's attached and the plastic cap is screwed down, you can't tell it isn't built right in. And it works as Inkbird intended...
It turns out that Inkbird sent me specs and you can use that to get the proper temp sensor and plug.
You need: ∅3.5×6×26mm DC plug
Thermistor Probe resistance: R25°C=10KΩ±1% R0°C=26.74~27.83KΩ B25/85°C=3435K±1%
I was not sure about difference between thermocouple and thermistor technology...so...
Hey all:
Inkbird has one of the most affordable assembled temp controllers I've seen. Mine is self-built and works fine, but time to get a smaller/more modular one.
I currently have a RIMS tube which has a 1/2" NPT K-type Thermocouple for the probe. The Inkbird comes with a thermister that...
@Aress99 A link to that item would be great.
I just received my IPB-16s, and have a pt100 type-k thermocouple in my RIMS tube...and am not sure what type of connector to use (3mm mini connector or 3.5mm audio connector? Will it work?) or if I should buy a new 1/2"NPT probe of some sort with a...
Hop Stopper.
Been brewing for 13 years so far. Tried the Bazooka filter, tried using SS scrubber attached to pickup tube. The Hop stopper allows me to do IPAs and drain the boil kettle nearly dry. Take a look.

Not certain about citrus like notes from yeast, but I know who does...
I would browse lager yeasts at https://whitelabs.com. They have all kinds of info about each strain. I would bet you can find one there.
Be careful of "seasonal" yeasts, your brewstore won't have them...so call before you...
I brew in Denver...as dry as many deserts.
I use Beersmith 2.0 and use the evaporation setting of 1.25 gallons per hour regularly. I know that for a 6 gallon batch I will start with a boil volume of 8 gallons or so, with a boiloff of 1.25 gallons, trub loss of .5 gallons and 4% shrinkage due...
I use glass carboys but have an under the counter fridge I converted into a lagerator. It's a small fridge and I can't fit an airlock on my 6.5 gal carboy when it's upright.
Any idea where I can find PET or some such 6.5 gallon "shorty" carboy? It's ok if it's fatter, just needs to be 6"...
I make a chile beer every year (5 years running now) and have come up with a formula that works for me. I call it En Fuego Pale Ale.
I grow my own chiles and have found Sandia peppers to be a good heat for eating and brewing.
For a 5 gallon batch, I add 5 roasted chiles seeds and all...
