Being the immense tightwad that I am, I have been searching for a wallet friendly system for vacuum sealing hops in mason jars so I can take advantage of the cost benefits of buying in bulk. recently I came across this http://www.salad-in-a-jar.com/famil...k-salad-in-a-jar-for-less-than-6-plus-a-video and gave it a try. I already had all the parts on hand, so the cost to me was $0. my only modification is that after I have a seal, I place a second (unperforated) lid over the first then screw down a retaining ring over both of them. I figure that if the tape valve gives up this may help to maintain a good seal.
edit: I actually used duct tape instead of electrical and it worked just as well.
