If I am making a beer with an OG of 1.05, or so, do I need to make a starter with liquid yeast?

Yeah, I have a Brown Ale that all my friends love that has an OG of 1.060. I don't use a starter so it is always very sweet. I think that's why they like it so much!

+1 on using a starter if you want less candy, more brandy!

I like to use a starter no matter what the OG is. It doesn't take much work and you can always feel confident when you pitch your yeast because you can see if they are alive and happy.
