I bet this has been done but I couldn't find it anywhere.
I was wondering about what would happen if I were to brew an ale and ferment with ale yeast and transfer to secondary where I add lager yeast.

Would the lager yeast do anything or would they just fall out because of lack of sugars?

Also would I still need to do a diacetyl rest?

Thanks

Once the beer is fermented, there wouldn't be any reason to add more yeast. Any added yeast will just fall out since there aren't fermentable sugars. And even if there were some fermentable sugars, there would be far more ale yeast (due to them reproducing) so it would still be not of any use.

But you can still lager and clear the beer if you have time before you "have to " drink it. I usually cold crash my ales for a week then bottle. Sometimes I put some of the bottles back in that 33* refer.
