    What are you drinking now?

Thanks! I think it’s OK but far from award winning. My girlfriend from Southern Germany likes it so I’ll take that as a win hah.

    Control fermentation temp.

How do you maintain steady temp with this method? I’m assuming you would have to use a thermowell for this?

    What are you drinking now?

yeah, JK isn’t my favorite either (or sours in general) but they have a nice venue and it’s a good place to go if you wanna change it up Sounds good to me. would be cool to meet other home brewers in the area. East coast here. Moved from Pitt about 2 years ago, hbu?

Question - Controlling Temp During Active Fermentation

Hi all, I'm planning to start controlling the temperature of my beer fermentation with a chest freezer and temperature controller, which has led to a few questions. I read that active fermentation can cause beer temperatures to increase to 5+ degrees warmer than ambient temps, but I've noticed...

    Fermentation Fridge

I was just looking into this a few days ago. Based on what I've read, LED bulbs produce the least amount of UV (almost none). If you have an incandescent bulb and want to be extra careful, it might not be a bad idea to swap it for an LED bulb.

Makes sense. Didn't think of that :mug:

    Control fermentation temp.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm wondering what is the purpose of the dehumidifier? I'm thinking a dehumidifier will not affect the humidity inside the carboy because the airlock will prevent external air from entering the carboy?

    Control fermentation temp.

That one is really nice, would be better than a chest freezer especially since my carboys have spigots on them. The only thing is I'm trying to keep it in the $200 price range and it looks like most of the upright freezers are significantly pricier than the chest freezers. I think I've made my...

    Control fermentation temp.

awesome, thanks for the info. I'm leaning towards going with a freezer at this point, so don't bother with measuring the dimensions (unless someone else needs them) FWIW, this is what I'm thinking about getting at this point because it's very big for the price... Hisense 7.0 CF Chest Freezer -...

    Control fermentation temp.

OR you could just get a tape measure and measure the dimensions of the carboy, then measure the interior of the fridge without turning any heads or needing to carry around a big container haha

    Control fermentation temp.

No problem. I haven't decided which one I'll be getting yet, just sharing the ones I found that look most promising. This one looks like it would definitely be big enough, cheap, and supposedly all shelves and bottom drawer can be removed. Very good reviews as well. Magic Chef 4.4 cu. ft. Mini...

    Control fermentation temp.

I'm in the same situation and I've been looking at different products out there so I figured I would share what I found. So far, this one looks like it's big enough for most 5 gallon carboys (even with the freezer), has good reviews, removable shelves, and one of the cheapest for it's size...

    First Batch - Possible Infection?

Thanks for the feedback. It’s the big mouth carboy from Northern Brewer: Big Mouth Bubbler® EVO 2 - Siphonless 6.5 Gallon Glass Fermenter with Harness

    First Batch - Possible Infection?

I don’t think it’s residual sanitizer because I only used Star San to sanitize and the carboy was very clean (this was a brand new carboy and my first time using it). Also, this showed up after 12 days into fermentation. Anyway, I’m thinking it probably isn’t an issue because it doesn’t appear...
