American Pale Ale Matt's Jam (Inspired by NoDa Jam Session)

This Beer was made for New Year's Eve 2016. It is largely based on NoDa Brewing's Jam Session, a local favorite. In reality, the efficiency for this batch was higher than anticipated, but the results were still quite good. The beer had a great hop character that I recall as a lemon-lime soda...

German Helles Exportbier dOATmunder Export Oat Lager

This beer was made for Oktoberfest 2016 in lovely NoDa, Charlotte, NC. It's a minor twist on the export lager style using oats for flavor stability, which worked like a charm. The first bit of beer from gravity sampling was remarkably similar to the last liter poured of the night! Lesson...

My first smoke, with recipe and pics!

Today was a summer overload for us here in Seattle. I took advantage of a day off by taking some leftovers and smoking for the first time on my trusty weber. Here's what it looked like. I have never made BBQ before, so there could be faults in the process. I researched how to do this for a...

    Sausage Casing Questions

I'm in the mood for sausages people! My butcher offered to sell me some casings under the table, she pretty much told me to name my own price. I'll be in need of both natural and plant based casings. Question one: How much do y'all think I should pay for each variety? Question two...

    philrose heading to Russian River

I got an invite to head down to San Francisco this weekend by a buddy who works for the airlines and I've convinced him (craft beer drinker but not a beer geek) that the hour+ drive to Santa Rosa is worth it for some sour and hoppy goodness. I'm totally stoked to try some of the one-off hoppy...

Quick, dirty and free Ranco power cord mount.

As someone with zero electrical experience, I was pretty proud of myself for wiring up my ranco controller on the first try. Only problem was that I didn't think to add something to keep the extension cord securely fastened to the controller. So every few months, when my hyperactive animals...

Cheap 10-13G Carboys on Seattle CL (not mine)

Gents and ladies, if you're in the seattle area and you need carboys, here is a gem lot from an estate. I picked up three "1948" 13 gallon carboys last weekend. Excellent price. There are a few left with and without baskets. Almost needless to say, I highly doubt seller is willing to...

...So I made a totally kickass RWS

...for ten gallons of witbier yesterday. Stepped up a 2L starter into 1 gal of boiled/cooled real wort in my old kettle, popped the BK's lid on that SOB and it is chugging away like mad at the moment. I'll pitch the whole darn thing tomorrow. Sometimes in the yeast/ferm forum there are...

    Defiant brewing, new york

This place has won me over. Sitting here now with a great SMaSH, quaffable session beer with good non citrusy hop character. The wings on Thursday nights are freaking delicious. Smoked with no sauce but a great dry rub. Effing love it.

Night one of princeton was triumph brewing for Scottish 80/-. Night two is harvest moon. Taking in a pint of mild right as i type this. Beer is good, but what's up with early 90's dancehall DJ at a brewpub? I guess it's a jersey thing?

What a lady. I've been on the road since June and when I got back to my hotel today I saw a package with some bottled brown ale and jails evil twin I haven't been able to drink in a looong time. My beer is so much better than Texas country bumpkin beer. Swmbo is the best! :rockin:
