    Moonshine doesn't burn (methanol test)

There is something to be said about Nuclear aging, which if raised to the boiling point of Methanol, it'd evap first, then you'd be left with more pure ethanol. I'm going to start doing this on store bought liquour. Gets rid of headaches.

First BIAB underway - Centennial Blonde Ale

something I did.... I went to a restaurant supply store, and bought a perforated pizza pan that "just" fit down into my kettle. I slipped it in upside down and it sits about 3/8" off the bottom. A couple SS round head machine screws with the nut underneath to hold the weight off the bottom...

    Smash 2Row w/Citra or Amarillo

Thanks for the input folks. I am not opposed to using two hops, but initially was looking for simple. I think I would add some hops early, but maybe not at 60min.... I'll have to do some gazintas to figure out how much bitter is reduced by adding at... say, 30min as opposed to 60 min. We...

    Smash 2Row w/Citra or Amarillo

When I was in Fiji, I fell in love with bitter beer drunk warm! I am finding now, I am not so much into bitter, but more light/refreshing. For a mouthful of beer, I'll stick to my porters/stouts. I LOVE a warm Guinness. Anyways, Ima try a SMaSh with 2Row, and probably Citra to start...

    Logistics of dough-in with BIAB

AND if you measure the temp of the grains ( or wort) just after pulling, one of the online calculators will tell you what temp is required in your wort (Pseudo strike temp/secondary strike temp) so your now Hot grain will bring it down to where you want it, or near so. You will need to weigh...

How long do you drain your sac

My first BIAB I squeezed the bag by twisting it to tighten then pressing down also. I did this for about 5 min til I got no more liquid puddling up. After setting the bag aside for hours, there was little to no liquid in the container. I doubt I got 2L from a 4kg grain bill. I will be...

Home brewing with home-malted barley without shaking out the chits?

Here's another thought can the berries be germinated in a rotating drum? the idea is to pour the saturated berries in the drum, and let the drum turn them over/over/over. Misting could be done if needed. an old electric dryer would work, turning off the heat and fan until sprouted to correct...

Beer kit instructions confusing: Ace of Spades Black IPA

my confusion comes in when folks refer to primary.... and adding an airlock. my kit told me to use a 10gal bucket, which has NO option to seal it. So leaving it in the "primary" would be leaving it in the open bucket. others refer to the primary as the "First" container used.... regardless...

How much yeast do you REALLY need?

Technically you need "1" and under optimum conditions, in one day, you'll have over 1Trillion So... But to make a specific taste/product, there are optimum amounts. but it would seem other amounts work fine also.

    Never remove blow-off tube?

I thought to blow off tube was for removing the crud off the top that contributes to the nasties? if you just use a large fermenter, you'd need to skim off the crud?

What length of time is needed for steeping grains?

perhaps I am missing something..... wasn't the OP steeping for flavour/aroma only? if so, sugars are not relevent?

    Sugar types

I agree, and vote for Mr Cat to set this up. as a noob as well, MANY threads are not understandable due to the use of "Insider Bafflegab" once we learn those, we will see the door open to far greater learning! and learning about homebrew is why I am here!
