    It's been a while..

I haven't been around the forum for a year or so, but it's good to be back. I'm currently working on a flash based brewing app that will be on my website once I have it completed. It will allow you to build recipes, mash schedules, equipment, manage inventory and ingredients, a gamut of...

    I never would have thought...

I'm freaking maxed out. After what I currently have in the secondaries and primaries I have no more room to store beer. A far cry from when I first started out last November wondering if I could brew my own beer. I've done converted to AG(thanks to this forum). I guess I need more...

Clean out your boil kettle valve.

From the consensus I have read around this forum, most everyone says that the boil will sterilize the valve on your boil kettle. Some of you run boiling wort through it to sanitize it before the end of the boil. After about 8 brews with my current kettle, I finally opened up the valve ( a...

    Defer Lagering?

I currently have a 10 gallon Pilsner bubbling away in the primary at 50*F. After the primary fermentation is finished, I would like to rack it in two cornys and use the fermenter and do another lager batch. The problem is, I only have the one freezer with temp. control. So my pilsner would...

    Carbonating kegs at room temp?

I just got another 20lb Co2 tank and would like to carb my kegs before I put them in my kegerator. I know that Co2 dissolves into liquid better at colder temps but was wondering if it would be possible to hook up the kegs I have in my backlog to the Co2. They would probably sit on the Co2 for...

Question for anyone that uses water heater heating elements

I am starting to gather parts for steam infusion setup. I am planning on using a half barrel keg and put a water heater element towards the bottom. I was thinking of removing the stem from the valve and use the valve with a sanke coupler that runs to the manifold with a guage, extra ball valve...

    Cold and Hot break?

I somewhat understand what they are but not completely. Could anyone give a detailed explanation (or link) about what they are. I've read many things about them, but still don't understand completely what they are or what they look like. :drunk:

    Storing wort for starters?

Is it possible to store wort in the fridge to use in the future for starters? Or is this a bad idea? I was thinking it might help save some time when it comes to making starters.

Best way to split into 2 fermenters

Right now I am doing 10 gallon batches that I split into 2 6.5 gallon carboys. The first time I used vinyl tubing with a splitter like the picture below, it worked fine. I was also using leaf hops, so my false bottom in my boil kettle didn't clog up that much. When I did my stout lately with...

    My yellow jacket stout

I just brewed this the other day and was wondering what anyone though of this recipe. It was based off of BM's Guiness clone, but I modified it to increase ABV a little and substituted Black roasted barley for roasted barley since that is what I had on hand. Recipe: Malty Moe's Yellow Jacket...

    WLP400 sub for Belgian Blonde

I'm going to be doing a batch of Biermuncher's Belgian Blonde - SWMBO Slayer sometime in the near future and just planning my next grain purchase. Would a Wyeast#1762 Belgian Abbey II work as a good sub for this yeast? I have some of this on hand and would rather use it if at all possible. If...

    which thermometer?

I am going to be putting a thermomter on my keggle soon and have been looking at these two different ones. The first is a milijoco and the other is a Fermentap(in the link) Which would you recommend? They are both in the $30-$35 range.

Anyone have experience with these kegs?

I just got 3 of these kegs today. I was thinking about converting them into fermenters. I know the bottom caps come off and the bottom is rounded like the all steel ones, but without a base to keep them. I was wondering if anyone knew if the top cap is the same way, or if there are actual...

    Marking your carboy

This shows how I etched gallon/half gallon marks on my carboy using glass acid etch. This is what you need: 1. Carboy 2. Masking tape 1/2" and 1" (or whatever you want, I already had these) 3. Armor Etch Glass etching (got it from Roberts Craft) 4. Flux brush 5. Scrapbooking letter set...

star shaped corney ball lock posts

What do I need to get to remove the star shaped air post for a 5 gal corney? The liquid side is a regular 7/8" socket, but I'm not sure what I need(or where) to get the air side off.

    Lower temps affect attenuation?

All my fermenters sit in my basement which is usually in the 60-65 range. The last two batchs I did, seemed to be a little low on the attenuation side. First one was a stout extract OG 1.079 and FG 1.033 with White labs Irish Ale Second was an apricot wheat OG 1.046 and FG 1.013 with Safale...
