    Cask Ale Conditioning

Hi guys, I'm serving up a pin cask (5 gallons) of a porter tonight (in about 6 hours). I just tested the conditioning of it and it's too low, even for a cask. I have a beer engine and I will pulling it through there which will give an illusion of carbonation but I was wondering if there is any...

    Cask Ale Conditioning and Finnings

Yeah, I ran through the video but the problem is there isn't any answer there for my questions. The guy even admits that in the US you have to make adjustments to do cask ale as breweries were not designed for it. The brewer threw a mini beer in the cask to get secondary fermentation going and...

    Cask Ale Conditioning and Finnings

Hey everyone, so I just got a hold of a pin cask and beer engine and am going to start brewing my own cask-conditioned ale. I just have a few questions about conditioning and finnings. From everything I've read, while you can use priming sugar, the traditional way is to rack to secondary before...

Wow, that's a pretty cool idea actually

Sweet Stout - forgot to buy roasted malt/barley

Whipped up a porter recipe and I might put in some coffee when I keg it but that's nothing to worry about now. I really wanted a milk stout but as you said, without the roasted barley it doesn't make sense. Thanks for the quick response!

Sweet Stout - forgot to buy roasted malt/barley

So tomorrow I have to brew because I'm on a tight schedule for an event. I have 3 beers lined up for it already: ESB, Golden and English Pale. I wanted to brew a sweet stout to also have a nice dark beer for the event but I forgot to pick up some roasted barley. There is no way I can get a hold...

    Tomorrow's Dubbel recipe check

Thanks Jessup! I actually didn't get to brew it yet because I had an emergency cancel my brew day but I will definitely be doing it in the next few days. I was leaning towards those suggestions already so I'll go ahead and make another update to the recipe. I'm also going to pm you about the...

    Tomorrow's Dubbel recipe check

Hi guys, I'm trying to brew a dubbel with Westmalle in mind. I brewed one that was pretty good about a year ago and I'm trying to give it another go. This is the recipe that I've come up with using mostly Brew Like a Monk as a reference. I'm trying to avoid using Special B or pale malt as the...

Pilsner Malt and American Ale Yeast

So I've been away for the last two months and only just got a chance to try it. It's wonderful! Perfectly balanced, nice malt backbone, hoppy, floral, fruity and bitter. Really easy to drink and perfect for the coming months. Here's a picture of a pint I just pulled from my kegerator. Thanks...

    Saison tips

    Saison tips

Thanks brewstergal! I swapped the EKG and I think I'll add some Acidulated malt I have lying around but I actually don't have any Vienna right now. I think I'll just drop the Munich down a bit and raise the Pilsner. I'm also worried it will be too malty with the Munich so that might help a bit...

    Saison tips

So here is the updated recipe. Removed some Munich, added Pilsen, lowered mash, removed the spices and changed the sugar to a light candi (homemade). Should I just use table sugar instead and should I dump it in primary or kettle? Also, I don't have anything but WLP566 (starter made) so I'll...

    Saison tips

Hi guys, so I'm brewing a Saison tomorrow and I was looking for some advice. I've brewed a Saison before, straight from Radical Brewing that turned out really well. I have a second batch of it fermenting now but I wanted to try something different tomorrow. The Saison I had before was very...

Thanks for all the suggestions! The beer has hit FG and already tastes good from the sample I tried.

Pilsner Malt and American Ale Yeast

Wow! Thanks for the great and swift replies. I might shoot for that Otley O2. As for American hops I have Columbus, Amarillo and Cascade so I'll probably sub the Chinook for Amarillo or Cascade.

Pilsner Malt and American Ale Yeast

I made a yeast starter yesterday with WLP001 California Ale Yeast for my brew day tomorrow and just noticed that I don't have enough Pale Ale malt (have around 5.5lb and need 11lb) for the recipe. So now I'm in a bit of a pickle and was wondering what I should do. I have two more yeasts in the...

    Another IPA

A bit of a late reply but I just wanted to report that you were right from the get go. The beer ended up having a strong caramel flavour that dominated the beer (even with the adjustments). I made another recently and it was much better.
