    Wiring Check

I'm planning out my 120V 20A single pump, single 1500W element RIMS system. Should be building it in the next month or two. Looking for some pointers and a sanity check on my schematic. Sorry, it's kind of a mess. I used Digi-key's online schematic builder because it's online and free :D...

    Conan Yeast with Simcoe

I'm looking to do an IIPA with Simcoe and Centennial late in boil and warrior as my 60 or 90 min addition. Planning on using Pale Ale Malt, some Crystal (40-60L most likely) and sugar to dry it out. I've used conan yeast before and it's pretty fruity so I'm not sure how this will turn out with...

Imperial IPA, First time messing with water chemistry

Decided to finally dive into messing with water chemistry. I'll be making a Firestone Walker Double Jack IIPA clone and building my water profile from distilled water using Bru'n Water. I'm not entirely comfortable with water chemistry yet so I'm looking for feedback. My predicted mash pH is at...

    Re-using yeast from starter

I know this has been asked before but I couldn't really find a good answer. I made a 3L starter and saved about 1L in three 12oz mason jars on Wednesday, June 4th. They all look like the one pictured. I'm estimating about 13 or 14mL of yeast in each jar. My question is can I just pitch 2 (maybe...

    Heat Stick grounding

I was just starting to build a heat stick when my drill started sparking and smoking when drilling the hole for the ground nut =/ I really want to get this done tonight so I can brew in my kitchen next week. I was thinking about attaching the ground between the chrome pipe and the slip nut as...

    How should my cider taste?

I recently attempted my first cider about 3 weeks ago. Last night I opened up my bucket to take a gravity reading and add some cinnamon sticks. It fermented down to about 1.00 and tasted kind of like wine and was slightly carbonated. I thought it was kind of weird that it tasted a little carbed...

    First time washing yeast

I bottled my milk stout last night and tried to harvest some yeast. The first image below is what I got out of my fermentor after adding some sterilized water. Am I correct in thinking that the middle layer in the first picture is yeast? I decanted the top layer and tried to pour just the middle...

    Measuring gravity a day later

So I'm in the middle of brewing and I broke my hydrometer. I know I should have a second one in case of an accident but I don't. Is it OK to take a sample today, refrigerate it, and measure my gravity tomorrow? I'm not sure if storing it will have any effect on sugar content.

    Leftover krausen or infection?

I'm thinking this is only some leftover krausen but it looks kind of weird so I figured I'd just ask. I'm racking to my bottling bucket anyway. I took a sample and it tastes fine

    Side by side fridge question

Has anyone ever used a side by side fridge with one side for cooling bottles/kegs and the other as a fermentation chamber? I'm thinking about doing this in the near future. If the fridge has a temp setting for both the fridge and freezer, it should be possible to use 2 temperature controllers...
