    Nest step after beer kits?

I went from extract kits straight to creating my own all-grain recipes (Admittedly I do cheat and review others' recipes). Next up, get away from the dry yeast.

    Christmas Carols...with a twist

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the brewshed, Not a bottle was stirring, not even a Moosehead. The mugs were laid out on the bar with great care, Hoping an imbiber soon would be there. The kegs, they lay carbing, all snug in the keezer, While visions of homebrew...

    Propylene glycol (RV antifreeze)

I'll second this -- I use it for cutting nicotine for use in electronic cigarettes. I haven't gotten dead from it yet (nor have I developed ketosis :cross:) It is USP and about $20 per gallon from the local tractor supply store.

    Less water???

Your original gravity will be about 20% higher. You will still have beer, but a bit higher in alcohol than what the recipe states. Not sure about the flavor or body, though.

What are you doing during the shut down?

Law enforcement essential to the security of our Homeland.

What are you doing during the shut down?

I am lucky enough to be an exempted employe -- I get to continue working. The people in charge of getting us paid, however, are all furloughed.

    Govt shutdown

I get to continue working without getting paid. Will be cooking up a "Slave Labor Stout" this weekend.

When Pliny is the cheapest IIPA on the shelf...

I recently asked our local beer store if they had any Russian River beer. They asked if I knew what the name was. I answered that I was looking for one of the Pliney series. They said that they did not carry it, and probably would not carry it since the import fees would be too expensive. I...

    Etiquette Question... Holiday Gifts

How 'bout a six-pack (or a case) -- that way he can share it or keep it -- his choice?

    Why the in fighting ?

This place is tame. You want to have some fun, go to a Harley board and brag about your Yamaha:ban: Everyone thinks their way is the best. (If they did not, then they would be pretty silly continuing to do it). The magic happens when someone brings up a point that the reader has not thought...

    Wet shaving thread.

A bit late to the party here -- I started straight shaving a few weeks ago. Currently using a Ralph Aust 5/8, with SRD Lime soap. Just started maintenance honing a couple of days ago using a Naniwa 5K, 8K and 12K -- that went pretty good on the RA using only the 12K, but trying to bring back a...

Time Warner Cable - It's on

I dumped TWC after they started cancelling channels and raising the rates every month. Went with one of the dish networks. Now I have 400 channels -- 100 spanish speaking, 100 home shopping networks, 100 infomercial networks and 100 channels of "nothing's on". I remember when there were only...

How old were you when you started?

Wow -- reviving an 8 year old thread! My first beer was at 2 YO (My grandfather fed them to me to keep me quiet. Since he was a doctor, they must have been medicinal). My first homebrew (someone elses) I was 36. My first time brewing, I was 50.

Things one guy should NEVER say to another guy

I keep jiggling it, but it won't go up! (While trying to get a hydrolic lift with a loose wire in the switch to work)

    Furlough Day = Brew Day

Due to some last minute action by the Con-gress, furloughs are off the table at my job:D

Where to (or not to) ferment in an apartment.

I wouldn't put it near the washer/dryer -- you want a cool, steady temperature. A bedroom closet would be better.

What do you dislike about summer?

High temps 115+ Overnight lows in the 90s Other peoples kids out of school, not knowing how to drive, and attempting it anyway.

    Thinking about a bike

Buying a bike -- you will save money on gas, but unless you are competant with a wrench, you are looking at frequent, expensive service calls. Additionally, expect to spend some money on new tires about every 8000 miles. That being said, I strongly recommend the Yamaha Star line -- it is a...

    E Ciggs

The ECig is made to continue the nicotine habit (dependency) without the carcinogenic poisons found in tobacco cigarettes. (Note that nicotine has never been shown to be carcinogenic). I have been "steaming" for about 2 years now, currently on a Volcano Lava Tube V1. And (in order to save...
