Advice on how to enjoy homebrewing over the years without becoming an alcoholic.

On the cheese curd note. I work at a place that makes cheese (Mass Produced), where in the process would you say the curds are 7 minutes old? While still in the vats after the curds are formed. After it is pumped from the vats and on the draining belts (Its squeaky bland at this point, no salt...

    Home Brew Application

I don't know if it is the original team. I stumbled on it a few months back when my old version crashed and deleted my brewing history/database. When i googled the problem I had that website came up as one of the answers. I've been using it since and I haven't had any issues with it. It...

Bottled water only option for now

In the Brew Science forum there is an easy guide to follow for water adjustments. If I remember correctly all the items you need would be Gypsum and Calcium Chloride. I've always skipped the Sauermalz as I use phosphoric acid to adjust the Ph. It will get you in the ball park if you are using...

    Open fermentation & Why ?

Some of the things that are learned at the beginning stages is due to the various mistakes that will be made at the start. One of the biggest is not pitching enough yeast. How many times have you pitched yeast and didn't see active fermentation for 24+ hours. Those breweries who are doing...

Ol' Reliable versus Something New--I'm puzzled

I normally change up beers when I'm drinking. If a place I go to has a beer I absolutely love I'll have one then move on. Reason, how do I know its the best if I haven't tried what else is on offer. On the same note if I'm out camping I've been known to bring what I refer to as a Safety Beer...

    What is your House beer?

While I brew toward the seasons and have a fair number of beers I brew repeatily, I have two that are always on tap. An English cider and a Special Bitter. 89% Maris Otter, 8% Med Crystal, 3% Dark Crystal, some Black malt for color, and EKG hops. Its a crowd favorite.

How often and at what volume is everyone brewing?

Didn't realize we were counting baths :D I brew several times a month 5 gallons on most beers, 10 on popular beers. Brewing schedule changes a bit. Sometimes I take a month or more off, other times I brew several times a week.

    Preparing Spent Grains for Chickens

I let them cool a bit, put them in a bucket and call one of the people I know who has chickens. No prep is really necessary, the chicken owners are usually more picky the chickens don't seem to care.

    Naming A Recipe

Since I seem to be the gathering point for several of my fellow workers, most of my beers get names. Some are named by the drinkers of the beers, In Your Face IPA. Some named after the hops/hop that is in them, Galaxy. If its a clone something to do with the original name. Some times...

How Many Kegs in your Keezer/Kegerator?

Mine holds 10 if i squeeze them in. Usually only have 9 as that gives me room to move kegs around as needed.

20 min boil hops vs hopstand

I did a beer several months ago that had zero bittering hops, all hops were added at flameout. Hop stand was 25 minutes it came out really well, bitterness was a little low for me but the wife really liked it. It took a lot of hops but you can make it work if you're willing to experiment with it.

    Your most-hated song

Basically anything that was from the disco era. But there's two songs that I really loathe, one modern, 7 years old. The other from the disco era, Mcarthur park. For me the lyrics doesn't make sense, and that is deal breaker for me

How many beers in your stash?

I'm more style driven rhen quantity driven. My keezer holds 10 kegs and I can serve out of 6 of them. If I'm running low on pale ale I'll make a batch no matter how many kegs are full, same with any style that I try and keep around
