    9 lb partial mash?

I'm rounding your grain to 9 pounds and your water to 3 gallons which is 12 quarts. In mashing we usually talk about ratios of water to grain in terms of qts per lb of grain. 12 to 9 puts you around 1.33. Ratios of 1.25 - 1.5 are middle of the road, so you are good.

I'd really appreciate it too! Don't want it to turn into a hassle for you though.

    Albany Area Brewers

I do most of my business with them other than hops and yeast. Reed's prices are very fair for a LHBS. Homebrew Emporium does periodic group buys. Wonder if Reed would be up for something like that. I live in a really remote place and like to keep plenty of supplies on hand. Buying one sack...

    Albany Area Brewers

I'm always looking for ways to keep the price of ingredients low. I buy bulk malt extract, hops by the pound (usually at Niko or Farmhouse), and my favorite dry yeast in lots of 20 pkgs to get a 15% discount (Safale US-05 $2.54). Now that I have switched to All Grain for 5 gallon batches of...

    Winter Brewing

I plan to brew outside through the Adirondack Mountain winter. In fact it was below zero when I started yesterday but was up in the teens when I started the boil. We'll see how cold I'll go…

It's cold outside and I want to brew!

That's about -8 F. Couldn't let that stop me or I'd have to start buying beer. It's almost 10 F now & I'm 15 minutes into boil. Little over an hour or so I'll back in front the wood stove.

It's cold outside and I want to brew!

-4 F here and I'm starting to crush grains. Will boil outside. This what I'll need to do to keep a supply of Homebrew over the winter in the Adirondack Mountains.

Awesome deal on LME! but a few questions

This looks like the best price I can get for malt extract in any form. 50 lbs DME = 62.5 lbs LME. Factoring in $20 shipping that's around $2.10/lb LME equivalent.

What do you buy in bulk?

We have a small bakery as well that we only run a couple days a week in the off season. You can get dextrose by the 50 lb sack from your bakery supplier for around 50¢ a pound. Generally use some in most batches to get a bit better attenuation than I'd normally get from extract brews. I also...

    oxygen canisters from home depot

As mentioned above, here in the States you need a prescription to fill an medical tank. I use a 20 cf oxygen welding tank with a regulator designed for such from Williams. The initial layout is more, but you get 18x the oxygen as a disposable cylinder for the cost of about 2 cylinders.

Looking for more body and mouth feel

You can also incorporate more grains that contribute unfermentable sugars such as dextrin malt, caramel/crystal malts, biscuit, and victory malts, etc. I have a pretty good stout that is just too thin for my taste. I'm thinking about adding maltodextrin or lactose after the fact to adjust it...

    M6 Oxygen Tank

That's a medical grade tank. I don't think you will be able to get it filled without a prescription. I have an oxygen tank for welding which I can exchange readily at a welding shop.

    Is this keg ok?

Looks like it was banged up pretty good and possibly breached, then welded to seal or reinforce. I got one like that in a batch I bought. Since I have a bunch of kegs anyway, I'll use it as a Star-San dispenser. If push came to shove, I'd consider using it. It's not like you are using it as a...
