    Help w/ Extract Recipe

I start right at 5 gallons, when they specify the yield, they say it's 5 gallons, so I assume that's normal losses during boil. I can't say for sure how much volume I'm losing, I'm sure not much -- and still I wouldn't expect the sugar sources to evaporate, just the water, but tell me if I'm off...

    Help w/ Extract Recipe

I've been doing full volume boils simply due to the fact that I have a kettle that supports it, but I have had to do half boils before and similar results. I really don't leave much of anything behind, I figure it'll all settle out once it's in the fermenter. I generally brew, use a wort...

    Help w/ Extract Recipe

Thanks for coming back with info here. I realize having less volume should translate to higher OG, that's why it makes no sense. The bad batches-- well, the most recent one had a Brett infection due to a crack in the lid. All of my fermenters have seemed to have grown mold, and I've just never...

    Help w/ Extract Recipe

The extract kit suggests a range, I measure exactly 5 gallons going in. I usually end up with roughly 4.5-4.8 gallons on the way out due to boiloff. I stir by pouring it back and forth between buckets for oxygen. My interpretation of a range is low to high, and when I'm lower than the low, that...

    Help w/ Extract Recipe

Hello all, I'm cleaning out what I have left of homebrewing materials, I've had a run of bad batches and I have one final one I want to do... But it's going to be a weird one. I'm going to use this as my litmus whether I want to keep going or not. I have a "Brewer's Best Irish Stout" kit that...

Odd batch, I doubt infection, but maybe?

I never usually let a brew sit long, but I just went to bottle a batch from 6 months ago. I didn't notice a small crack in the topmof my fermenter, airlock ran nearly dry (had a few fruit flies in the juice). Opened it up and everything smelled fine, tasted a little extra hoppy (this is an Irish...

    Fortify a Bourbon Barrel Stout

Probably not, but a few fifths of Knob Creek would be a few $100, and exceed my yeasts ability to condition, right? Might be be better to suggest it as a mixer. Know Friday when. I bottle it!

    Using a Fermzilla Properly

I recently picked up, and made a batch within a Fermzilla. I talked with a few people who said that they brew with the butterfly valve open, which makes sense to prevent oxygenation from whatever is in the bowl. Do I shut the valve after fermentation completes to emulate moving to secondary? Do...

How many gallons of Cider in 2020

    Just fired up another four gallons. 473.00 + 4.00000000 = 0,477.0000000

    Fortify a Bourbon Barrel Stout

I recently made a bourbon barrel stout, and I heard I can fortify it with whiskey / bourbon for extra flavor. I made ~ 5 US Gallons of it, any ideas how much bourbon I should add for good flavor, and to also prevent destroying the yeast (as I plan to bottle condition it)? I will plan on using...

    Bottle cappers & no carbonation?

Tbh, there are eplenty of calculators to tell you what kind of an idea it was (how that amount vs. volume will change your OG)... But my gut reaction is that you won't notice a difference
