its funny that the word "decoction" is even mentioned in an article about how to save time!
Seriously though, I think another time savings would be in clean up. I know we don't have to get our boil kettles to a sterile level of cleanliness, but personally, I do have to do some scrubbing to...
dang, was hoping they were the same, just depending on how you place them.
Doesn't look like amazon has anything then besides this one, that is about twice the price as the recommended M-C unit, and with an apparent level of dissatisfaction...
would this one work from amazon? Looks to be adjustable 0-20psi (30"hg), 1/4"npt--would screw on to end of morebeer/williams premade unit? or do we think the 0-20 psi control is optimistic...
I'm dumb--can you give us an example of how you'd use the chart (https://cdn.homebrewtalk.com/images/1/9/3/7/2/3/hbt-steve-7-1523-full.jpg) to say, get 40 IBUs into a 6 gallon batch?
post back what you find. I have recently been reevaluating this option. other things to consider (or that I am considering)--you could drill a big hole, for a single or double holed stopper, one for thermowell and one for airlock (as I'm currently using with my carboys). then when it comes...
Ok thanks. That makes sense. That part is cheaper than a PID. And probably easier than finding my multimeter, if I even have it here.
I'm not sure how those auberins thermowells work. I'd think they'd be pretty solid. I took it apart to look for issues but didn't see anything
Sent from my...
Thanks floormatg. I don't think that's the problem. when you plug it in and set it up, you can tell it jumps around (including back and forth between 88 and -88 for example) when you are moving the cable around. I jingle the cable a bit to 'calibrate' it with a standalone digital thermometer...
been e-brewing now for a couple years (thanks Jkarp). for a while now (9 months?) my thermo probe to PID connection has been very jumpy.
got this stuff from Auberins. It is an RTD via a QD to the good SS wrapped cable to a panel mount QD, which on the inside then goes to the PID. at...
ok, good data point. is your herms pot water boiling at that point (when you are ramping) or is the passing wort pulling too much energy out?
what if you wanted to do a mashout, say from 154 to 168. guess you're saying that would take about an hour (not debating the value of a mashout...
the barrel side just gets cooled by what's left over? looks like a floor vent in between the rooms. other wise no temp control for the barrel side? not like a bit of a swing matters much. What controls the a/c?
Nice build!
Yes Poptarts, I was going to say, looks like from your most recent pic, you upgraded from the nylon T. What did you go with there? Something like this (the brass t pic halfway down) http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=20_15&products_id=249? I think it's what I may...
