Made my very first yeast starter with WL California V for a rye IPA of OG 1.065. My starter was 1.8L with a gravity around 1.04.

Do you think I over pitched?

Usually fermenting beer smells tropical but this batch smells like citrus and I've had a massive blow off.

Let me know what you guys think.

TIA

Gabriel

What size batch?

I usually use ~1.8L for 5 gallons. You should be fine

Yes 5 gallon, ok so I should be good. Maybe it's the rye that gives off citrus smell. It's been very vigorous for 4 days. I think it's just now starting to slow down.

Could be hops coming through too. Once it's done making a mess just switch over to an airlock and ride out the rest of the fermentation for 10-14 days.

I used Columbus and Mt Hood hops I've never used them before. So that could be it. I think my favorite thing about the hobby is watching the fermentation process.
