Having trouble figuring out my starter. Omega OYL Bayern Lager 114 which when I got it is already 134 days old. 5.5 gallons with a gravity of 1.054. Can anyone help me out? I have a stir plate.

I use the same one. I have been making starters successfully from my frozen yeast bank with yeast collected over 6 years ago. I freeze 5 ml yeast in 5 ml glycerin and 10 ml water.

I use the K. Troester method of aeration on a stirplate. It takes over a week with all the steps, cold crashing and decanting.

I would start with a 250 ml starter at 1.025. After that increase the size and the gravity until you last step is what you need for the wort at 1.038 to 1.040 SG.

So I guess I should start soon as I want to brew on Sept. 10, my birthday.
