Does anyone have a suggestion? So the day is finally here, my first batch of beer. I get my yeast starter going, cool down the wort to 72 degrees, shake my vial of White Labs Saison Ale Yeast prior to pitching it into the flask and when I open it up, it explodes like a bottle of tonic water. I manged to only lose about a 1/4 to a 1/3 of the vial but my question is, am I screwed? Should I just scrap tomorrow altogether, order some more online and start again next weekend? I wish I had a home brew supply store nearby but alas I don't.

You should be fine as the yeast will multiply in fermenter - and the starter
White Labs vials do tend do explode as they do have some co2 in there.
Best way is to give is a slight shake and open very slowly.

Make the starter you will be fine.

Thanks for the info Andy. I suppose as with anything, you learn with experience. From now on the White Labs vials will be treated like a bottle of tonic water and as you suggest, opened slowly.
