I am aware that a big drawback to boiling the wort over wood is the temperature control. I have a lot of fire brick, and a lot of wood to burn. Does anyone have any suggestions for designing an outdoor stove for this purpose? Open to any and all ideas, even if you want to tell me it's a bad idea.

As long as you have enough wood to keep a rolling boil going for an hour I don't see a problem with it. You could also heat up riverbed stones in the fire and toss them in the boil and make stein beers.

Why not just get a used wood stove and put a couple or 3 sections of smoke stack on it? I use a potbelly which uses wood and coal. They are designed to really crank out heat when called on.
