I live a few hundred yards from a Cherry Orchard (in Northern Michigan) and have been toying with trying to capture some wild yeast.

Two questions:
1) Does anyone have experience with capturing yeast from cherry trees/an orchard?
2) Since we're a few months past all the fruit being harvested, would I have better luck trying this in the Spring when there's fruit on the trees?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

From what i gather its best when the fruit is ripe. With that said i read that temps in the 40s are best to discourage lactobacillus cell count in the area.So a cold spring might be great or you ca give it a try now.I would say give it a try(or 10) the more starters you make the better the chance of getting something worth dealing with.I have no experience, i am just starting myself this web site has great info. good luck
