Ok so I'm getting an education on the difference between NPT and NPS threads.

I've got my 15 gallon pot.
I've got a 5500 watt heater element.
I need a female fitting that allows the element to screw down far enough to compress the neoprene gasket. The only thing I have locally is a 1-inch galvanized coupling. All the copper and SS fittings I have are NPT or tapered.

I can't get in touch with either of my rental stores to see if they have a tap that I could use to open up a stainless steel fitting I have laying around.

Any thoughts or ideas? Is a galvanized fitting OK?

I plan to just drill into the pot with a 1.5 inch hole saw and grind away whatever I need to fit.

Ace Hardware has a galvanized fitting that is NPS. I am thinking of just removing the zinc coating with vinegar and salt. Then it would be straight iron. Not sure that would be good for the wort either. Maybe since it doesn't amount to much it would be OK?
