If it works, it works. Seems like every brewday I can't find an airlock to save my life so wind up with a blowoff (as I should anyway), two days later have found FOUR of the little buggers scattered throughout the house. Next brewday? Gone. Like odd socks.
 
I have taped a bin bag over a fermenter beforewith the lid cracked open.
 
Airlocks are really only needed to keep fruit flies out of the wort and to entertain new brewers. I use a small piece of Saran wrap taped over the hole to keep the fruit flies out and go fishing for entertainment.
