So I’ve got a 30 gallon barrel that previously held rye whiskey and then had 4 year old, bourbon barrel aged rum in it for two months. I am wanting to brew a beer to put in this barrel but I’d like to stay away from the obvious stouts or RIS type beers. Let me hear some suggestions of great styles that this barrel would accentuate. Maybe Belgian or English is what I’m thinking, but open to all suggestions.

I have a 6 gal Rye Bourbon barrel
Did a golden Ale/Pre-pro that I fermented for 6 days in bucket, then racked to barrel and added 10lbs of cherries. aged for a week or so in barrel.. tastes like an old fashion.
just need to check every 4-5 days for fruit beers, if they sit for too long it will taste like old fruit.

Currently I am aging a slightly off recipe Wee-Heavy by using a bit of Rye in the grain bill. So far so good. Been in barrel about a month now.
