What malts to use?

So i have been extract brewing for a few months and i was wondering if there were any malts i could use to get the color that the crystal 40- for example- gets. I keep getting beers to sweet and im thinking that it. Does anyone have any suggestions for crystal 20, 40, 60??
 
Look at different recipes.

I use C-10, C-40, C-70, C-77, C-120 among many other specialty malts. Some of the recipes I do are sweet - per style - and some are dry. Also look at the amounts you are using, remembering that there was probably a crystal malt used in making the extracts.
